Limewire won't stay open! I'm running Windows XP w/ a 1.4 GB processor, 256MB RAM, GeForce Titanium II Videocard. I've used Limewire for years and only recently did this problem begin. I beleive it was after an update. I have J2SE Runtime Environment 5.0 Update 7 and Limewire 4.10.9. I start it normally after shutting down all other applications. The time it remains open seems entirely random as I might get an entire file one day and only a few bites another. I have unistalled all associated programs, downloaded new versions and reinstalled but it persists. I've tried to find something, anything in the settings but I just don't know. Anybody have an idea? Need more Info? |
I have had that same problem for months. Except whenever i open it it stays open for 30 seconds and then just dissapears into nothingness. If anyone knows what it is, please help me too. |
Try the fixes in this thread http://www.gnutellaforums.com/showth...limewire+shuts |
thanks, im trying it now |
I'm afraid it didn't work. I've downloaded the offline versions, uninstalled them, deleted the .limewire folder and reinstalled everything but the problem is still occuring. I've also gone to this link http://www3.limewire.com:6346/ and been told "Your test worked!". Test of what? |
The test is just to see whether port 6346 is being blocked:) That's LW's default port. Are you running any antispyware that might be conflicting with LW? Some will see LW as a threat. If this is the case, make sure that LW's on the list of exceptions/allowed apps. Try disabling the antispy & see if LW stays open;) |
Sorry, should have said that I had disabled my anti-spyware. That appears to not be the problem either. |
If you're using Windows XP SP2 then it might be worth seeing http://www.gnutellaforums.com/showthread.php?t=57438 BTW did you try deleting your LW prefs folder? Remember it might be in either of 2 locations (one of them being within a "hidden" folder.) peeler89 it might be worth uninstalling Java, then reinstalling it using the "Offline" Java installer which is about a 15 MB downld. |
I can't beleive how stupid the sollution appears to be. 1. Open up "Options" and go to "System Tray". 2. Set the Shutdown behavior to "Minimize to System Tray". I had it set to close after transfers but it was closing while I still had lots of files downloading. After making that little change it has been open for the past 9 hours. :p |
Bah! Problem not solved. Like I said in my original post the time it stays open IS random. It shut down @ some point just like it has been and it doesn't "Minimize to System Tray", it just shuts down. |
