Cant play avi files off of Lime Wire Pro?

When I try to download a DVD movie off of Lime Wire it al mpst always is a avi file. But when I try to preview the file Windows Media Player 10 says it cannot play the file. I do not think the files are corrupt because the media player will not play any of my avi files. But it says in the player's manual that it supports .avi files yet it will not play them. Why not? How do I play avi files?

Your probably missing the proper codecs to play them. This thread has good info: CODECs list for Movies /Alternate players / Video help forums.

I use theXP Codec Pack 1.3.0 for Windows media player. It seems to work pretty well.

VLC media player is a good one that has the codecs built. You may want to use it as a back up player as it will play most files.

Some files are bad/corrupt. Bitzi Web Lookup is a way to help sort out which files are good or not.
