How to view TMP video files

Hi

I just downloaded a AVI file that has a TMP name in it.

For some reason Windows Media Player won't play the file..


What do I do?

TMP sounds like a temporary file. But anyway, if you're willing, try this player: VLC - (click on link) _ (choose nearest mirror site) as it has in-built codecs & is very reliable. You can also downld extra skins for it. It should solve your problem.

Hmmmm...the file won't open using that video player.

I ran a utility that identify this file to not be a Non-AVI file

So not sure what else to do?

Any suggestions?

If it's not an avi file then what is it? Is the extension avi or tmp? http://filext.com/detaillist.php?ext...&Search=Search I can't find other references to it as not being an extension. Try other video-codec identifier utilities & see what they say; CODECs list and alternate players for Movies. But if VLC can't play it then I don't hold much luck for it. VLC is usually a good litmus test as to whether a video file is good or not.

Thanks for helping me out.

The file extension says AVI. And I ran Gspot and it found that this file is a non-avi file. So I am stumped on what other utility that can identify this file.

In addition is has a TMP in the name of the file (not the extension).

I am a bit confused where you said :

"TMPG encoder & burner (TMP is for burning dvd's, VCD's, etc. only!)"

So how does one see a VCD or burned dvd movie?

Within VLC do you mean? Control-D for open disk. A window will then appear asking which type of disk it is. You select the appropriate option.

BTW AFAIK GSpot hasn't been updated for some time. Try another one also. eg: MediaInfo, SHERLOCK - The Codec Detective!, afreeCodecVT, etc.

I just googled around for tmp.avi & it seems most references were in relation to converting video on Linux. MPlayer seemed to be one of the main players concerned ...

eg: "tmp.avi is a temporary file it creates from MEncoder in order to use 2bppconv. For some reason or another it couldn't find tmp.avi to process for 2bppconv."
