"Message" "LimeWire was unable to initiate and start. This is usually due to a firewall program blocking LimeWire's access to the internet or loopback connections on the local machine. Please allow LimeWire access to the internet and restart LimeWire" Okay so this is the message I got on both LimeWire and FrostWire. I deleted my firewall but I am still having the same problem with both programs. Does anyone know how to fix that or at least what to do? |
Rather than running with no firewall, it's a better idea to have 1 firewall that's properly configured. Most routers also have an internal firewall. Have a look through this sticky, it has info about configuring software firewalls & also devices' firewalls (enabling UPnP & port forwarding). YOu can find out whether your modem/router has a firewall by going through the manual or searching online! Connection problems? Check here first! Do the port test, see if it works. I guess you see the firewall icon (brick wall)? If you're still stuck, post back with your details OS(Win XP etc) LW & Java version (help > about LW & you'll see) Firewall you're using Modem/router brand & model ISP Connection type (DSL etc) Where you connect from (home, school etc) Are you sharing a connection with other computers Is this your first try with LW |
I installed a McAfee firewall and it still didn't work. And the picture of the brickwall isn't there. Windows XP LimeWire 4.12.3 & Java version: not sure firewall: McAfee Modem (no clue)/Router: Linksys Wireless-B ISP (no clue) Connection type (Cable) Where you connect from (home) Are you sharing a connection with other computers (no) Is this your first try with LW, (it used to work just fine untill a couple of days ago) |
What version of Java are you using (within LW if you go to help > about LW you'll see both your LW & Java versions!!!)? Try updating your Java using the offline installer & also deleting the LW preferences folder when LW's closed. There are links for both below Fixes for LimeWire Have you made sure the XP firewall's off? Did the port test work ok? |
