Help deleting unknown file.
 

OK so theres this suspicious file on my harddrive thats titled "System Volume Information" and is only seen when i unhide the extentions and all that.
Well, i tried deleting it (in safemode as well) and through ewido but it says "access denied" and wont let me delete it. is that because is appears under the three partitions of my harddrive?
well anyways, if someone can help me delete these files that would be awesome.

DO NOT DELETE tHAT FILE It is a vital part of your operating system. Has to do with system restore and such

well, do you think you can help me find out whats making my computer run so slow?

i have windows defender and ewido and it all says that nothings wrong.
but theres gotta be because my download speed is very slow and whenever i start up my computer, it takes about a minute to start like the screen just goes black.

I tried Windows Defender and after removing it everything was twice as fast

Could be one of the issues

I am guessing that you have checked your computer for malware that could be slowing you down.

In between anyone of these steps I would recommend that you reboot. This is a good way to ensure nothing goes wrong, or if something does go wrong then you know why.

1. Download and install this firewall. Then use it instead of the firewall you are currently using. It is very good. Remember to disable (preferably uninstall) any other firewall and only use this one.

2. Now disable ewido. Only turn it on when you are going to scan with it. It uses a lot of resources. also don't let it start up with windows.

If you haven't removed Windows Defender yet, Now would be a good time to do it.

3. If you do not have any other antivirus installed then download one from this link

I use AVG free myself and in my oppinion it's good enough. If you decide on another one, please post back to let me know how well it works and if it uses many resources.

I would recommend scanning with both antivirus and Ewido at least once a week

4. Remove all quicklaunch icons. Place shortcuts on your desktop instead. Also remove any minimized icons in your taskbar that you don't use.

5. If you have many programs you use the go through them all to see if you really need them all. maybe uninstall some of the ones you don't use. If you do have something installed that you don't know what is, be very careful about uninstalling it. I would recommend google to find out what it is and if it is needed on your comp.

6. now download and install CCleaner

Run it and delete cookies, tempfiles etc.

Remember to reboot after doing this!!!

7. Now use CCleaner to scan your registry. DO NOT just delete all issues found. Only delete the ones that are associated with programs that you do not currently have installed on your comp.

Especially remember to reboot after doing this!!!

This should have helped a great deal with your speed issue.

I am stunned, speechless and dumbfounded that Junior Member Nickxup wanted to delete a crucial part of his O/S, if he had succeeded it would have rendered his PC useless (until and if he could reformat his HD).

This reminds me of a time I used to work with a young (very newbie) woman who arbitrarily decided that has she had not put the squiggly file names in Word Perfect 5.1 for DOS so she was going to delete them. She did and immediately destroyed the programme, which eventually had to be re-installed.

Now, some years later, I hear of users wanting to delete the Windows directory from their C:\ drive so they can have more space (I believe someone in the building where I worked did this).

Will people (newbies) ever learn?
