Lime Wire Disappears After purchasing and installing Lime Wire Pro, something happens, and the program and all files are removed from my PC. I was running Spybot and Adaware and thought that one of them may have been causing this, but I have discontined running both programs and Lime Wire Pro is still removed. It is totally uninstalled. The shortcut reamains on my desktop, but cannot find the program. I have to reinstall almost every time that I want to use this program. Darryl |
Darryl's Account I have used Spybot and Adaware SE with LW for over two years now and they have never, ever attacked, deleted or changed any part of LW. Therefore, it is highly unlikely that these two well respected and used anti-spyware apps are the cause of your problem. Tell me, are you a member of AOL and do you use their anti-spyware app? UK Bob |
Lime Wire Disappears Yes, I am a member of AOL, but do not use much. I use Roadrunner and Firefox. I was using Spybot and Adaware. Darryl |
Lime Wire Disappears I do not use anyother anti-spyware from AOL or anyone else. I agree that Adaware are Spybot should be causing a problem. But I stopped using just to test it, and Lime Wire still was uninstalled. No trace of it except the shortcut on my Desktop. Very strange indeed. Is there any log that can be checked to see what is going on? Darryl |

AOL Account Holders Darryl's Account Most AOL users have, as part of their installation, AOL's own anti-spyware application, which I believe is a clone or version of Pest Patrol. This anti-spyware app, which starts up every time you switch on or reboot your PC, sees LW as spyware and always (without fail) deletes LimeWire.exe. Now, you say that you do not have any other anti-spyware app but I bet you if you check either Task Manager or your start-up folder you will find AOL's anti-spyware app, you have to disable this (i.e. prevent it from starting-up/running) before you will be able to use LW properly. Please note, every AOL user that visits this forum complains about the same problem, that is how I was able to guess that you were an AOL user without you saying so in your first post. Also, I have a friend who uses AOL, but not LW, he told me about AOLs anti-spyware app is automatically installed when you first run the AOL disk. Find that app and disable it. Good hunting UK Bob |
I am using CA PestPatrol as part of the EZ-Armour software provided by RoadRunner. I used the Quarratine options to restore LimeWire, and will see if this solves my problem. Thanks for the lead on this anti-spyware program. Darryl |
After that, dump pestpatrol. It simply doesn't work side by side with LW. Search pest patrol or pestpatrol on the forums & you'll start to understand what I mean. PP simply considers all p2p programs to be spyware no matter whether they have it or not. That's a poor design implementation of the program. But for everything else PP is a good program. Just they (the designers) basically stick their fingers up at p2p programs!!!! And say "you're dead!!!" :( |
BTW you will need to reinstall LW. Hopefully PP hasn't done any damage to Java also. After all, LW is 90+% designed in Java. Any other problems, try steps 1, 2, 3 & 5 here Fixes for Limewire |
