I don't want to scare you, but if my computer would do such strange things, my first bet would be a virus.......programs are not supposed to act like this, unless they are told to do so; either by configuration or by some nasty controlling it. Check your system using any of these programs (I reckon using all of them): http://www.lavasoftusa.com/software/adaware/(free) http://www.grisoft.com(good free AVG) http://www.ewido.com(free trial which can still be used and updated after the period has ended -the best in my opinion) http://www.ccleaner.com/download/(free) Spybot - Search & Destroy (FREE) If you can't get rid of it go here and get some free computer help: http://norbiesworld.co.uk/computerhelp :Smilywais: |
I just got told that it is not necessarily a virus. This could also be hardware related. Could be graphic card driver problems, heatsink not good enough, or fan not strong enough, or bad ram chip, etc. Limewire and Blue Screen of Death (click on link) That might not be the case this time, but could be ... :Smilywais: |
thx dude, but no, i dont have nothing of that no virus , no spyware, IM CLEAN that happend in all my computers, my pc reboot when limewire is oppening, the only way to use limewire for me is using 4.6 or 4.8, that versions, dont cause me any troubles, but 4.9 or better YES:bangh: any other ideas??? THX |
1. Try this Tip: Purge the Downloads Queue! 2. Try deleting your LW Preferences folder whilst LW is closed; instructions here: Point #2 & 3 in Fixes for Limewire (sample image included at bottom of page.) Doing these might stop LW stressing your computer that causes this to happen. 3. Go to Norbie's world & he has a general computer problems section. There is probably an out of date driver or something that is only triggered by LW when it runs. http://www.norbiesworld.co.uk/Forums/c=6.html |
THX guys i'll try all that but this is ridiculous:bangh: , i have a great computer Pentium D 950, 2 Gb Ram, 1000 Gb disk, ge Force 6800, XP Media center |

Tools----Options----Advanced-----System Startup, unclick the box |
I have the same problem, every time I want to open lime wire, my pc restarts!!! i dunno if this has something to do with the error, i found it on the lime wire folder : # # An unexpected error has been detected by HotSpot Virtual Machine: # # EXCEPTION_FLT_DIVIDE_BY_ZERO (0xc000008e) at pc=0x00bfaa53, pid=3724, tid=3396 # # Java VM: Java HotSpot(TM) Client VM (1.5.0_07-b03 mixed mode) # Problematic frame: # j java.text.DecimalFormat.format(DLjava/lang/StringBuffer;Ljava/text/Format$FieldDelegate;)Ljava/lang/StringBuffer;+8 # any clues?? thx! |
So steps 1, 2, 3, & 5 here Fixes for Limewire If that doesn't fix it then get the system checked by the expert at NorbiesWorld (click on link) |
well, this is strange, if i unistall lime wire, or if i delete the .limewire folder, my limewire works perfectly, but if i restart/turn off my computer, the problem returns... the last thing i see lime wire does, is trying to connect digital acces protocol help plz! thx! |
Reboot in Limewire Error Several weeks on this..... Xp SP2 Only. Select F8 on boot to switch off the automatic reboot. Run and wait for the reboot but...... You will then see the error on the blue screen.... DRIVER_IRQL_NOT_LESS_OR_EQUAL and the killer Atapi.Sys Check the microsoft database but ignore the suggestions only if you are mad like me.... Search for Atapi.sys in the C:/windows driver folder. Delete it (keep it in your waste bin just in case). No warrenty implied and keep them backup disks close.... |
Limewire causes reboot Just to add something. Don't know if it helps or not. I have the same problem with Limewire giving the bsod and rebooting. A couple things I noticed however. It only happens when I am connected to the internet through a wireless connection. If I disable the wireless connection and attach to the internet via wire into the router, I have no problems. This indicated to me that there might be a setting for the wireless router which needed to be changed. It was a linksys router. i have susequently moved. The new apartment already had a Netgear router set up. I was able to use Limewire through wireless with no problems. The person who controls the router then set up a password for security. It was originally unsecured. I stsarted getting the reboot again. The Linksys router also had password protection. Don't know if some of this is coincidental, but Limewire definately worked fine going through a wire connection to the router. It has only rebooted (for me) when using wireless. |
PC silently reboots when running Limewire Driver equal and less than zero problems are both MS Windows problems, possibly related to x64. Standard Windows Update should solve those issues. The Limeware restarts my PC problem is a little different. I have NVIDIA nForce 10/100/1000 ethernet. The actual driver seems to be the problem when Limewire Pro 4.12.6 and Java 1.5.0_03 are used. I've been hesitant to upgrade due to the "Pro" part. Java 1.5.0_03 has known bugs and security issues. I've seen in other forums that you can't update the JRE without updating the Limewire software. This specific JVM (and about the 7 revisions after it) had memory resize problems. The next step is to make sure you have the latest and greatest nic card drivers from your vendor. My computer restarts pretty regularly (without a blue screen) when I have 8+ downloads with 10 hosts each with "Turbo-Charged" connection enabled. There's some interaction between the hardware, the driver, Java, and Limewire that gives an fault. The third step is to understand what you are downloading. There's a lot of junk and trojans out there. Very old virus scanners with "smart" behavior or script detection will shut a computer down immediately if there's suspicious activity. Hope this helps. |

Thanks, but it just happened this morning, so I thought I'd add my two cents. |
