Trouble with Append function

Sometimes I download 3 files of the same name, and the append box comes up, so I clock "append". And it won't append the name, so I have to click "save as" and manually append the name. What am I missing here?
thx

Yeah me too, I asked the question a while ago and never got an answer. So what is the correct way to download multiple files with the same name in Limewire?

LimeMAN October 8th, 2006 10:49 AM

append

you can just use the save as function, but Im lazy and like to use append. And still trying to figure out why append works sometimes but not others. Apparently randomly..

djc53320661 October 8th, 2006 04:23 PM

Everytime I try to download a same filename I get prompted with the 3 options, but in preferences I have selected "always append", so can't Limewire automatically rename without bothering me?

LimeMAN October 8th, 2006 05:14 PM

append

Kazaa used to do it beautifully...Ahh, I miss those days. Its a shame kazaa wont connect no more.

I've the same problem, I've to press APPEND everytime because the program is not able to rename the files... and sometime it not accept the APPEND and have to choose the SAVE AS option. BORING!

Please!!! :-)

The append works fine for me in both mac & windows beta version 4.13
You have the choice of being asked what to do, append, save as, etc.
But you can also set it so it automatically appends. This setting is in your options.
My windows version runs on win 2000 with java 1.6

I'll try and check this out for you

4.12.3 pro and java 1.5.0_09

I've setted up the "Always append(#) to filename", but it ask for it everytime.

Lord of the Rings November 15th, 2006 02:09 PM

You should press Apply button after such a change. If you've already done so, see if it still happens after you restart LW. If yes, your LW prefs might need deleting; Fixes for Limewire

Tnx a lot LOTR. I'll try. But I've reinstalled even the OS, and nothing to do...

But... it works for you?

Is it possible for you to update LW. Even perhaps the beta.

You could also try Java 1.6 beta, but LW won't use it if there's any other versions of Java on your system, so you'd need to remove those 1st. Reboot after removing or installing Java.

Else, check how many versions of Java you have on your system. Perhaps there's some old ones that don't need to be there.

Tnx again! ^__^

No I don't. The append function works sweetly for me.

_663_ November 20th, 2006 11:14 PM

Tnx.

Lord of the Rings November 20th, 2006 11:15 PM

On the mac it's LW 4.13, Java 1.5. On windows 2k it's LW 4.13 & Java 1.6

Below is an example of automatically appending the filename on windows 2000 with LW 4.13 & Java 1.6

Whilst you can have it set to ask, I have it set to automatically Append.

I've uninstalled all previous versions of java and Limewire and have installed Java 1.6 (beta) and Limewire 4.13 (beta). It works in the same way. It ask me to append every single file even if I ask the program to remember my choice....

Lord of the Rings November 23rd, 2006 05:36 AM

If it were doing that to me, then I'd dump the prefs folder. The prefs might be corrupt. Try deleting your LW Preferences folder whilst LW is closed; instructions here: Point #2 & 3 in Fixes for Limewire (sample image included at bottom of page.)

But make a note of important settings, because the next time you start LW you'll need to reset all your options again.

Has anyone fixed this yet???!!!

This is such annoying problem of something that should be such an easy fix. Its not just XP, as it still does not work in Vista!

Lord of the Rings January 20th, 2007 04:39 AM

Still works fine for me in Mac OSX & Windows 2000

cs3007uk January 20th, 2007 04:42 AM

yeah it works but not fully, as surely you shouldn't have to keep pressing append everytime I want to rename a file, why can't it apply to all the files once you have told it?

Lord of the Rings January 20th, 2007 06:40 AM

But it does do that, at least for me, if you select 'Always Append (#)' then that's what it should do & always does for me.
