Songs skipping?

Hi, I've recently downloaded limewire to my nice new laptop, but every song I download skips, its gotten to the point where I dont even want to listen to the music I have anymore as every single song skips multiple times during the songs. Is there any known fix for this or would I just need to redownload my entire library?

Are you using the LW player? It's not very good & can suffer badly if you're actively using LW while playing songs.
Disable it (tools > options > player) & make something else your default player...see if your music still skips:wink:

applejuicecity October 9th, 2006 09:22 PM

ah I've already done that, songs still skip with WMP 11, and WinAmp :\

Are you previewing the songs as you download them? Try downloading something (make sure to pick a file with a good bitrate - at least 192, preferrably higher), preview it at at least 50% download. If there are no skips in preview, finish the download & then see it it skips on playback.

applejuicecity October 9th, 2006 09:27 PM

Yeah I make sure only to download songs with high bitrates, but alas....skipping continues -_-

birdy October 9th, 2006 09:28 PM

Do you preview the songs?

applejuicecity October 9th, 2006 09:29 PM

Yeah for the most part, they come in nice and without skips, but then after the downloads completed I play it and it skips :\

Do an experiment:D
Download VLC player (choose the nearest mirror site for download)...it's free & very reliable. I'm not any sort of music guru but I've just read a thread suggesting that downloading heaps of codecs for players can cause probs. VLC has it's own codecs built in.

So...download the player & then play one of the files that's been skipping with VLC. Open your saved folder outside of LW > right click on a file > open with > choose program > choose VLC.

See what happens then.

thanks, will do

applejuicecity October 9th, 2006 09:42 PM

erf...nope still skips even with VLC player o_o

birdy October 9th, 2006 09:48 PM

Okaaay....are you playing songs while LW's open? Have you tried playing when LW's closed & do things still skip then?

applejuicecity October 9th, 2006 09:48 PM

Yeah tried that to no avail :[

birdy October 9th, 2006 09:54 PM

Okaaay...
*birdy bangs her head on the wall*
...well I don't have a clue now. Has this only started happening with your new computer? Did you use LW on another computer without the skipping problem?
What about CD playback...do things skip then?

Maybe someone else here has an idea about what's going on. Stay tuned:wink:

applejuicecity October 9th, 2006 09:55 PM

No, never used limewire on another computer, and CD's dont skip so..hmm

Lord of the Rings October 9th, 2006 09:56 PM

Did you by any chance use the Describe button on the song from LW's Library window whilst it was downloading or after it completed downlding? There is a bug between the Describe option & WMP. WMP cannot read compressed id3 tags.

applejuicecity October 9th, 2006 09:58 PM

No I haven't :(

Lord of the Rings October 9th, 2006 10:01 PM

When you previewed the songs, did you use winamp or wmp? I'm just wondering if it'd be better to preview with winamp whilst downlding & completed & not using wmp until you're sure it's ok. Perhaps even backup the file before you try playing it with wmp next time.

Some other people have complained about this but I've never experienced it.

No sir.

Are you using your office network to download songs onto your laptop?

applejuicecity October 10th, 2006 12:03 PM

Sometimes I download from the office network, but mostly I download from home.

ukbobboy01 October 11th, 2006 05:18 AM

Well, Junior Member Applejuicecity

Does your problem occur when you use the office network, home or both?

If it is both, it could be one of three problems:

a) Hardware, something has gone wrong with your laptop.

b) Your office network has some sort of restriction on it, e.g. Network strength anti-virus app.

c) Your ISP, which you use at home, has some sort of anti-P2P installation designed to curb the use of P2P apps. You can easily check this by asking your ISP if they have an anti-P2P policy.

well it was working normally for a few days after I did a defrag but now its skipping again after i downloaded more songs. Strange, but I'll do another defrag and see if it does anything? o__o

I have that same problem, sometimes songs work fine for a few days and other times every song I d/l skips like that. I'm going to check with my isp to see if they have an anti P2P policy. If anyone else has info on this it'd be greatly appreciated.
