what's wrong with my LimeWire?

I have been using LimeWire for months now with no real problems. About a week ago I logged on and all of the lettering of the file titles in my library turned red. I thought that was wierd. Then when I tried to play a video clip it takes forever for the player to activate and the video to play. Then when I finally give up on it and try to terminate it it takes forever to stop and I usually get a program not responding error. It also bogs down my whole computer after trying to use it. I tried running virus scans and computer check ups and un-installing and re-installing LimeWire and nothing works. I have to do a hard restart on my computer after I try to launch any media files from LimeWire. LimeWire has made my computer a paper****** and I don't know how to fix it. Please help!

Try uninstalling Java in the add and remove programs then reinstall JRE using the offline installer here
http://java.sun.com/javase/downloads/index.jsp

Edit: I see Grandpa already answered this in another thread. Did you follow his advice and what were the results?

Have you tried the fixes in this thread: Fixes for Limewire when LW isn't operating as it should!.

Also could you post the details of your set-up: System details - help us to help you.

Another thought: Tip: Purge the Downloads Queue!

I tried the fix that Grandpa recommended, but for some reason I get errors trying to install the Java update that he recommended. I also tried to install the most current version of Java instead of the Beta version and also got errors that would not allow me to install it. I have not tried to install it offline yet. My system details are as follows...

1. Windows XP Home
2. Norton Personal (which I usually keep disabled while I am online), and Zone Alarm Pro.
3. 248 MB of RAM
4. 36.0 GB of free disc space
5. Cable modem
6. Motorola SB4101 cable modem, no router
7. Connecting from home
8. LimeWire 4.12.6, Java J2SE Runtime Environment Srandard Edition V1.3.1_04
9. Service provider was Adelphia Powerlink, but I believe has become RoadRunner since the Time Warner aquisition.
10. Did the test and a solid white page came that said Your Test Worked! in the upper left corner.
11. Not sharing my connection with any other computers or p2p programs.
12. This is a new problem with an experienced user.
13. There is a brick wall in front of the icon at the bottom of the interface.
