Question concerning Search Results (?)

Hi there,

My question really concerns the number of search result hits, as opposed to those that actually show/appear for download. It's getting a tad annoying, given the level junk that also arrives

For example, as I am writing this, I have had my basic 4.12.9 version search a subject and the 'hits' back on the results tab show 1239 results on that subject. Yet, I can only see and scroll down 17 of those. None of the others appear. Why is this?.....Why can I not access all the results achieved by the search?? ....Also, this can vary. Sometimes I search and there are just a few hundred hits, but I can only see maybe three of those. Can someone please explain what is going on, and how I can at least get to see/access all my hits/results of a given search when they are found?

Thanks for your time and consideration with this post. :)

Regards

Nate

If you look in the number symbol column (sorry .. don't have one on my keyboard lol) You may have say 100 of the same file. This will only take up one line but show as 100 in the results count. Depending on how your junk filter is set (I don't have one so I'm not 100% sure) I think junk results may be included in the count, but may not be visible.

I hope this helps..If not please let us know :)

Hi Hobo,

Thanks for the swift come back!

Not quite sure what you were eluding to there, but I have just done another search whereby the only 21 search hits that have come through from 926 are going to be labelled mostly as junk. When you consider it was a test search under the word 'Mustang' (which I thought would be quite a result 'hit') no 'tangible' results appear, save one...and the rest are junk. How do I know the others are just specific repeats of what is already there? There are Mustang cars, and Mustang Aircraft, and Mustang horses etc...that I would assume would/should come up as valid downloads for the subject matter other than spam or junk...do you see what I mean?...But I can't view the others to find out.

Do you see what I am getting at?

Also, if you would be so kind, can you answer why it is that items appear for download, but immediately show as 'awaiting sources' or 'Need Sources'? I assume by the fact that they appear, it is because they are being offered by share folders from people that are online...otherwise they would not show...Or do I have that completely wrong??

Thank again

Hi ... I have just made an all files search for Mustang. 289 results. Note I am using LW4.10.0 which has no junk filter. Another thing is that on the latest Limewire there is a built in filter which eliminates apparent files which are in fact URls to any number of web sites. I do not know if these show in the count, but I know the files don't show up. This may be an explanation.

Also check that your media panel on the left does not just have one type selected.

Most of the results are mp3 and there is of course a famous song with Mustang in the title ..lots of them :)

What I was alluding to was this:

In video .. there are 119 results 8 showing 1 source, 3 showing 2 sources, 1 showing 3 sources and 2 showing 51 sources ( those last ones are undoubtably junk)
Add them all up and you get 119 results but only 14 different files

When you show all files in the search window, do you see 21/926 I do think that the URL files mght be includes in the large number but I'm not 100% sure.

Hey Hobo,

That's great feedback...thanks so much! Explains certainly some of it at least.

Any ideas regards the 'awaiting sources' - 'need sources' thing please?

Kindest

I'm glad it makes some sense:)

I just answered the awaiting sources question here http://www.gnutellaforums.com/showthread.php?t=64103 and that should help :)

I won't be so quick if you have more questions but someone will reply or I shall be back later

Hobo :)
