Default Limewire Closing on Startup

I checked the other similar threads I could find on this topic, but I haven't been able to figure out an appropriate solution. About half the times I try to start Limewire, the startup graphic appears, changing from "Loading Resources" and "Loading HTML Engine" to "Loading GUI", then it closes, and the program stops loading. If I remove the configuration files, as recommended in a few other threads, I'm taken to a setup page after "Loading HTML Engine", which asks me for my language, and then asks me where my "Shared" folder should be located. After selecting a file location, it closes like before. I've tried multiple versions of Limewire, and multiple versions of java with the same result. Likewise, I've tried configuring Limewire on many other computers successfully, and I didn't used to experience this problem before, though I'm unsure what has changed since then.

Currently, I'm using J2SE 5.0 Update 10, with either Limewire 5.12.6 or 5.13 beta on Windows XP SP2.

Any advice would be greatly appreciated. And I apologize if this topic has been brought up before, despite my not being able to find it.

Thanks for your time,
-Jess

Have you tried changing compatibility? Right click on the LW icon on your desktop > properties. Change compatibility to windows 2000 or NT & see if it helps.

Are you using any antispyware programs? Some will wrongly pick LW as a threat & prevent it from opening. Make sure LW's on the list of exceptions/allowed apps or even disable the antispyware & see if LW loads properly.

Default Pulling my Hair out!!!!

yes my problem is slightly different when it comes to the language setup screen i cannot click inside the setup menu box, if i click on it it freezes ( altho i can still use all other programs *which arent frozen*) if i click another program then go back to it via taskbar i can click close option *top right* of menu but dare not click inside as it would freeze again *note the rest of my pc is fine when LW language setup is frozen.... and it is exactly the same with java console when i open it...

I have tried all solutions, offline installs of jre, deleting all LW folders i could find while LW was closed and tried installing jre before repairing LW.. This problem has me stumped, have searched all over google to find a solution to fixing LW to no avail....

Please can someone help with this problem as it would be much appreciated thanks in advance `jake

Hey I found out how to fix my Limewire. Go to search and type in limewire. Before you start deleting everything make sure you copy and paste your limewire files that you've downloaded. Then proceed to this paragraph.

Q: I try to start LimeWire and nothing happens. What's the problem?

A: You may have uninstalled LimeWire, or a spyware removal program may have miscategorized LimeWire as spyware and removed it (such as AOL's anti-spyware software), yet the shortcut still appears on your Windows desktop or taskbar. Please update to the latest version by downloading the installer.

If LimeWire is still installed on your Windows system yet you still cannot launch it, Java may be corrupted. To correct the problem, uninstall the Java Runtime Environment from Add/Remove Programs (go to: Start > Control Panel) and then redownload and install it [here].

http://www.java.com/en/download/ go here to DL the Java after you have uninstalled Java Environment in your control panel.

Good day!

Then you run the swarm installer (limewire's installer) to reinstall limewire.

It seems to be working again. *sigh* The problem with it only happening half the time, like it is, is that now I can't debug it until sometime in the future when it stops working unexpectantly. I previously tried changing compatability, as you suggested Birdie, but since I'm the only one that seems to be experiencing problems that aren't resolved by those list of suggestions, I'll give them *all* a shot again next time around.

Thanks so much for your time!,

Mann jess
You say,
"I'm using J2SE 5.0 Update 10, with either Limewire 5.12.6 or 5.13 beta"
Ive never herd of L/W versions like this can you confirm.
Un install all java and all L/W versions COMPLETLY before reinstall of boath.
Oh & use the off line installer, for java.
Do a search on your com for L/W files and delete all of them
Oh coppy your D/L files to a new folder before deleting L/W.
Peace.

The current version of Limewire is 4.12.6, and the current beta version is 4.13.0. You can check the download page here: http://www.limewire.com/english/cont...oadfree2.shtml . I downloaded both of these to reinstall in hopes that my problem had been addressed recently, but nothing changed. I used the offline installer for java already, however I didn't have both java and limewire uninstalled before reinstallation, so I'll give that a shot next time around.

Thanks again for all your time!,

Jess. Hi
Yes! Correct D/L location, its your choise whitch version L/W you use but you must completly remove all first, Dont Uninstall L/W from ADD/RemovePrograms when you uninstall from ADD/RemovePrograms,
The prefs folder gets left behind. So Uninstall from START/All Programs/LimeWire Uninstall Do a computer search and delete ALL L/W files before starting again. The corrupt part is probably in the part that gets left on your com. Uninstall any java from ADD/RemovePrograms that works fine mosty. Hey Jess Merry Xmas, Problems just shout.
Tell us if it works ok Cos others, and me need the feed back.
Namaste n Peace.
