um ... not sure where your problem is but sounds like it's in your system & not LW. For CD's get yourself a cd cleaning kit ... I use a special cleaning cloth & spray. I have a cd cleaner also I use which is a cd with a small brush underneath. It's not designed for computer disk drives but it does work.

The disks you're talking about I presume are bought ones & not ones you've burnt. I always check music before burning.

Check your system settings for audio & disk drive settings (& also driver upgrade.)
