Limewire causing overload on cpu

I've been having problems with Limewire lately. It's down to when i start Limewire my cpu- starts and conitues till i shut limewire down- to work at between 40% to 60% now this is causing my system to lag when for example trying to game at the same time, which i used to do regulary while using Limewire at the same time. Now when i try to play a game while Limewire's running it just lags like hell. This actually is also happening when i use Azureus. This also never used to happen before. I thought then that it must be something to do with Java since both programs use this so i downloded and installed an older version but it's still doing it. I've also scanned for viruses with a few different programs which all returned nothing. Does anybody have any idea what's going on with it? Thanks a million for any help at all. Max.

Hi chancemax
can you cut n paste this form, In your post with answers filled in please.
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Recently there's been a problem with people not providing enough details about their setup - despite being asked again & again.

So let's make it easy for everyone...the details that we need if we're going to be able to help with complex problems are:

1. OS version? (eg: Windows 98)
2. What firewalls you have?
3. How much ram?
4. Hard Disk space available?
5. Connection type? (eg: dialup, broadband, cable, etc.)
6. Modem & router brand name & model numbers?
7. Where are you trying to connect from (house, appartment complex, school, student accomodation, work, etc.)?
8. What version of LimeWire (LW) & Java do you have? (Go to LW's menu Help>About LW...) Will show both LW & Java version.
9. Who is your ISP provider (Internet Service Provider)?
10. Do this simple test for us. Using your browser go here: http://www3.limewire.com:6346/ The page should say 'Your test worked!'. What happens when you go there?
11. Are you sharing the connection with other computers or p2p sharing programs? If yes, please give details of set up.
12. Is this a your 1st try at LW or is this a new problem with an experienced user.
13. Do you see a brick wall in front of the blue world icon at the bottom of LW's interface?

Help>About LW...) Will show both LW & Java version.
latest limewire & java

10. Do this simple test for us. Using your browser go here: http://www3
.limewire.com:6346/ The page should say 'Your test worked!'. What happens
when you go there?
Worked
11. Are you sharing the connection with other computers or p2p sharing programs? If yes, please give details of set up.
i have three other computers on my home network but my problem isn't connection related anyway
12. Is this a your 1st try at LW or is this a new problem with an experienced user.
I am an experienced user who is experiencing this for the first time.
13. Do you see a brick wall in front of the blue world icon at the bottom of LW's interface?
Actually yes but i don't use any firewalls

Ok i'm sorry if i was a bit vague before. I have been using limewire a long time and i can asure xcom46 that it does not use 75% of cpu certainly not ever on any computer of mine and i have regulary gamed and also ran numerous other programs at the same time with no lag whatsoever. On taskmanager limewire usually flashes between 01% - 04% cpu but hardly ever reaches 4% Except of course when the app is starting up. On my other main system Limewire is still operating as normal. However on this system task manager will still actually only show limewire to be using the regular 01 - 04 but the whole cpu usage gauge goes up and stays up above 40% and no other process is using anything near this and it's only when either limewire or azureus is running and actuallu utorrent which i've just discovered also. It is very strange to me indeed. The only change in my hardware that coincides with this change is when i setup a raid 0 config. So my o/s (and limewire) is running on this config but for the life of me i don't see why it should be causing this.
Thanks for all replies. Max.

Hi chancemax.

It sounds like possably a corrupt java download, &/or L/W Prefs folder prob
First! close L/W completly, then Go,
START/My Computer/local disc C:/ Documents & settings/Your User Name/Application Data
Now Delete the LimeWire Folder.

Now! Go to,
START/Set Program Access/Change or Remove Programs,
now completely remove all versions of java.
Now! Use this Link to get JRE 6 Use the off line installer NOT the (recormended) one, disconnect from internet, close ALL apps n reinstall
java. Follow thease instructions exactly.
http://java.sun.com/javase/downloads/index.jsp
If this dosent fix it then I think you have SPYware and or virus.
I think you may need these links for later.

Peace.
