limewire creates filenames that are 2 long This topic has almost been addressed in the past. I'm using Limewire in XP.. I just downloaded a file that apparently has too long a filename for windows to deal with. I'd ask why windows allows a filename that's not allowed but I know the answer ("Gates: screw you, we're Microsoft.") Anyway, right clicking the file shows a shorter than normal menu. I can delete the file only by deleting the folder it's in. But I don't want to delete it. I want to rename it. I've tried to rename it in a command shell but it can't deal with it either. I tried burning it to CD in hopes the burning software would automatically shorten it. No luck. Is there anyway I can rename this file? Thanks. |
try this Right click on the icon with your mouse than scroll down to rename than just rename it or make it shorter. It should work i no that i have never had that problem. chris b........ |
The rightclick rename thing never works for me. DOS commands are are the only way I've found to get rid of them. Use the command prompt. GEt a DOS window, change directory to your shared directory, use the DIR command (wildcards are handy so you don't have to do 255 charactors), if there are no other filenames that match but the bad one, then change the DIR command to a DEL command to delete the file with the long filename. |
