my songs are gone

I've been using LimeWire for awhile now, and have been saving all my songs to the same file, and playing them on iTunes. The other day, an ! appeared in front of 3/4 of the songs I have gotten from iTunes meaning the file is missing. 3/4 of the songs I downloaded from LimeWire are no longer in that file! What's going on??

Lord of the Rings February 26th, 2007 10:16 PM

because you moved or deleted them probably. What you need to know about iTunes is here How to transfer music to my iPod (& iTunes)

But that's the thing... I never touched the files. And I know no one else has been on my computer.

Can you still play what's left of your files? I sure hope that your computer hasn't been infected! There's something nasty going around that turns your music files into .exe or .zip files.

Good Luck

P.S. Have you tried a search for one of the missing files?

ebmblbee February 27th, 2007 06:46 AM

The files are completely missing. They won't play, and when I go into the file I save all my LimeWire music into, they are not there. I've read posts about the .exe or .zip files infection, and I don't think that's the case here, because I can't even find the files to begin with.

This probably doesn't matter, but I was asking if the remainder of your songs play (in your first post you state that 3/4 of the songs are gone...what about the remaining 1/4?)

Regardless, something is happening on your computer that shouldn't be. I would run some antispyware and antivirus scans with the most updated information you can.

Good Luck :xeri_ok1ani:

Oh, I misunderstood. :p Yes, all the others play fine.

ebmblbee February 27th, 2007 12:41 PM

I scanned my computer for spyware and viruses, and found nothing.

Please refer to folder when meaning folder. A file is an individual item, be it a document, etc.

Where are you saving the music to? Is it an external drive by any chance. I ask because I had problems with having my iTunes library on an external drive. If I opened iTunes whilst the drive was not connected, I would lose music files. I solved it by moving the iTunes program to the external drive.

ebmblbee February 28th, 2007 11:17 PM

I save all my LimeWire tunes into my iTunes music folder so all my music is in one place. No, it is not on an external drive.

I'd suggest posting your problem at iTunes forums. I think they may know what's happening. iPod Forum
