Installing LimeWire.

I recently reformatted my computer and had my LimeWire backed up on another drive. When I opened it after installing it, it wouldn't work so I uninstalled it. Now when I go to either limewire.com or download.com and click in the DOWNLOAD link, I get this message:

The website declined to show this webpage
HTTP 403
Most likely causes:
This website requires you to log in.

What you can try:
Go back to the previous page.

Why is this happening and how do I get to download and reinstall LimeWire?
I even tried the offline installer...
It's frustrating. :(

Clear the browser cache & history, etc. & try again. Alternatively, use a different browser. BTW I would recommend using the Offline installer.

I had previously cleaned out the cookies, history, cache and whatever. I'm using IE7, and don't particularly want a new browser because that's what made me have to reformat.
Thanks for the advice. :)

JulieS Hi.
Sounds like things have become jumbled.

Follow thease instructions exactly.
So, you need to Go, Start/All Programs/LimeWire n Uninstall all L/W versions.
Do Not Uninstall From Change or Remove Programs.
Re BOOT Your computer NOW.

Now Go to, Start/Search/click on all files n folders/more advanced options/
& make sure, case sensitive, is not ticked. (all other boxes should be ticked)
Now!!, Put limewire in box, (all or part of file name) & click search.
Delete everything found, including Prefetch folder, (I mean everything)
Re BOOT Your computer NOW.

Now! Go to,
START/Set Program Access/Change or Remove Programs,
now completely remove all versions of java.
Re BOOT Your computer NOW.

Now! Use this Link to get JRE 6, Use the off line installer, NOT the (recormended) one,
http://java.sun.com/javase/downloads/index.jsp
When Download is completed.
Disconnect from internet, close ALL apps n reinstall java.

Now!! Use this link to download latest L/W version using the off line installer
http://www.limewire.com/
If you need help, Shout, If it fixed your problem or not, Feedback helps others.
Peace

Hi,

I followed your instructions, and did exactly what you said, and it's still not working. :(
I've been trying for 3 days to get Java working, and it won't. It won't even let me in to play games or anything, and that same message always comes up whenever I try to download anything. I have my firewall set to allow Java, and the Advance options in Internet Options is clicked on Java.

:bangh:   :(

JulieS.
You say!
"I have my firewall set to allow Java, and the Advance options in Internet Options is clicked on Java"
is your firewall set to allow LimeWire ? (java is not L/W)
Peace.

JulieS March 2nd, 2007 01:39 AM

I can't set my firewall to allow LimeWire because I can't download it due to that error message I posted in the first post.

I'm trying to figure out how to configure my firewall since I don't know if it's done correctly. I think that's why it's not letting me download LimeWire or any other program.

System details - help us to help you Please.

Cut n paste these Questions, put your answers in bold text Thank You.

Recently there's been a problem with people not providing enough details about their setup - despite being asked again & again.
So let's make it easy for everyone...the details that we need if we're going to be able to help with complex problems are:

1. what OS version? (eg: Windows 98, XP,OSX, Vista)
2. What firewalls you have ?
3. How much ram ?
4. Hard Disk space available ?
5. Connection type (eg: dialup, broadband, cable, etc.) ?
6. Modem & router brand name & model numbers ?
7. Where are you trying to connect from (house, appartment complex, school, student accomodation, work, etc.) ?
8. What version,LimeWire & Java,Go to L/W's Help/About L/W, THIS show both LW & Java version.?
9. Who is your ISP provider (Internet Service Provider) ?
10. Do this test click here: http://www3.limewire.com:6346/ should say 'Your test worked!. What happens ?
11. Are you sharing the connection with other computers or p2p sharing programs? If yes, please give details of set up.
12. Is this a your 1st try at LW or is this a new problem with an experienced user.?
13. Do you see a brick wall in front of the blue world icon at the bottom of LW's interface ?
14. Have you given full permisions for LimeWire to pass through your Firewall ?
15. XP users, Please state XP firewall on or off.?

These are all contained within the sticky Connection problems? Check here first!
but possibly some people are getting a bit confused or lost when we direct them to this sticky & ask them to provide their details.

This information can be vital
For instance, some ISPs are known for blocking p2p/throttling bandwidth,
some connection devices are known for being unreliable in certain situations.

So please, help us to help you & provide as much info as you can.
If you're new to LW or new to computers & aren't sure how to answer some questions,
or don't know what an ISP or router is - just say so. Nobody's going to yell at you:wink:
Even if you can't answer all the questions in one go...don't worry. Do the best you can & we'll take it from there.

P.S exactly where did you get your coppy of L/W ?
