deleting songs from files

after i have downloaded and recorded a cd, i usually go back into my 'c' drive and pull up my progam files (where my downloaded songs are saved). to save memory for my computer, i go ahead and delete songs thats i have already recorded. However, for some reason, i cannot delete about 10-20% of these.. i get responses ranging from "this is a shared file" to "this is a write protected file".. do u have any suggestions of how to get rid of this now unwanted material.. Thanks

Hmmm

You can do this if you close Limewire and your player - if you have a separate one. Then delete from your HD.

Without stating the obvious - why would you want to delete songs from your shared folder? That's why it's called Shared :)

re: deleting files

I'm new to Limewire and the Gnutella network - still trying to figure it all out. I see on the message boards that there's a common problem a lot of people have - and one I had - How to delete files in the library? Even after shutting down Limewire I still get "can't do" messages when I try to puge my harddrive. True, the idea is to share files, but it gets to a point where you have to start housecleaning.

I found a simple way to get rid of unwanted files - use an Uninstaller program. One that works great and you can try for free is put out by McAfee. Their address is: http://software.mcafee.com/products/. I suppose the whole idea of the Gnutella network is to share files and I suppose I should put my copy of the program up there - once I figure out how!

Deleting files

Hi Brian

That's very very strange.

And you're right - we all need to clean out the bad stuff now and then.

I've deleted files from the Shared folder and other people have been successful too.

Logic would indicate doing this on your hard drive, is the best way to do it.

I can't understand why this won't work for you.

Well, thanks for the link for other people having the same trouble and lets hope someone will come up with an answer soon.

:)
