Limewire just won't open... :( *major frowny face*
 

Sighhhhh,

I'm starting out with a sigh because you don't know how upsetting your life is until you don't have access to limewire anymore.

If I double click limewire... the hourglass comes up and then it just does nothing. It's not on my system processes... its as if I didn't open it. Everything else opens just fine, so it's probably not a computer problem.

But yeah, so what have i tried to fix my problem?

Deleted all limewire files (not the mp3's or avi's... just the program and everything located in its directory), reinstalled limewire

Uninstalled limewire from control panel... deleted all files leftover... reinstalled

Uninstalled, reinstalled

Uninstalled, quacked like a duck 3 times, cried, reinstalled

no dice no matter what I do... Tried checking my version of java, www.macromedia.net says its correct... so I dunno.

Please help me, I need this program to survive. I actually DO feel depressed without access to this program :(.

oh yeah, and just some stuff about my computer:

3.0ghz P4 processor
radeon 9800 pro agp video card
1.5gigs of ram
windows xp

You didn't even tell us what Java version you're using:p but try Java 1.6 anyway. Use the JRE offline installer & remove your current Java version before installing the new one.

Delete LW's preferences folder. See point 3 below (also point 2 if you've used much older versions of LW in the past). This will kill all of your settings within options, you'll have to go back through & reset things afterwards.
Fixes for LimeWire

Now reinstall LW & make sure to use the offline installer.

If that doesn't help, try changing compatibility. That's point 5 in the 'fixes' thread.

If it's still not opening, have you installed/updated any security programs lately? Make sure that LW's on the exceptions/allowed list for any antispyware etc.

the java update fixed everything, must have been using the wrong version...

i've tried all of the fix solutions, but i can only go into limewire 1 time, exit, then it won't let me back in again until i log off my computer and then log back in again. what am i doing wrong?

Did you install Java 1.6, or did you use the Java link in the 'fixes' thread?

used JAVA link. i think i've fixed it. limewire was acting like it wasn't actually shutting down when i would "x" out of it. so when i would try to re-enter it acted like it was still running and not let me back in. so i went into options under shutdown proceedures and clicked "shut down immediately" and now it works! trouble is, i don't remember having this option checked when i was on before i tried boosting the speed on limewire with JAVA upgrades. don't know, but i hope this helps someone else.
