Limewire Shuts Down possible Java update problem

I use to be able to play games in full screen mode with limewire still running. But now Limewire just shuts down automatically. The only thing I can think of that is the problem is that java update was just installed. I originally thought it the realarcade I had installed but I uninstalled that. And the problem still exists.

How do I fix this? Thanks.

By the way I am new here.

System:
amd 3.2ghz
ati radeon x1600pro 512mb
160gig hardrive
1gig of ram
K8T890 motherboard/pci express

broadband internet
version of limewire: 4.12.6

mickjapa108 April 13th, 2007 03:16 AM

scalad Hi.
What is your connection speed ?

How many simultaneous Downloads do you have set ?

How many simultaneous Uploads do you have set ?

scalad April 13th, 2007 03:26 AM

My connection speed is 54Mbps
Simultaneous downloads: 20
Simultaneous uploads: 20

Those settings were like that when I could use limewire and full screen games at the same time.

Thanks for replying.

mickjapa108 April 13th, 2007 03:50 AM

At first when you use L/W, your L/W library is small, as it grows, more people
Upload from you, So if you have also many large files D/Loading at the same time With your Upload/D/Load sliders set to full, THEN you stream games
Somthing has to give,
So when playing games, try cutting both to 10, and move the sliders from full,
Back 10%, UP & DOWN.
Its recomended not to use the sliders on full at any time.
Peace.

scalad April 13th, 2007 03:58 AM

That didn't work. Bummer

mickjapa108 April 13th, 2007 04:00 AM

Who is your ISP ?

Also try Disable ultrapeer capabilities, In Tools/options/Speed
Peace,

scalad April 14th, 2007 12:32 AM

That also didn't work. I swear java update did something. Only because the problem has occurred after the update. Since I never had the problem before. Your help is really appreciated.

mickjapa108 April 14th, 2007 01:41 AM

Hi Scalad

I know its long winded but probably quicker in the long run.
Lets try a clean sweep & install.

Follow these instructions exactly.
So, you need to Go, Start/All Programs/LimeWire n Uninstall all L/W versions.
Do Not Uninstall From Change or Remove Programs.
Re BOOT Your computer NOW.

Now Go to, Start/Search/click on all files n folders/more advanced options/
& make sure, case sensitive, is not ticked. (all other boxes should be ticked)
Now!!, Put limewire in box, (all or part of file name) & click search.
Delete everything found, including Prefetch folder, (I mean everything)
Re BOOT Your computer NOW.

Now! Go to,
START/Set Program Access/Change or Remove Programs,
now completely remove all versions of java.
Re BOOT Your computer NOW.

Now! Use this Link to get (jre-6u1-windows-i586-p-iftw.exe) Use the off line installer, NOT the (recommended) one,
http://java.sun.com/javase/downloads/index.jsp
When Download is completed.
Disconnect from internet, close ALL apps n reinstall java.

Now!! Use this link to download latest L/W version using the off line installer
http://www.limewire.com/
If you need help, Shout, If it fixed your problem or not, Feedback helps others.
P.S..Before using L/W put the settings to where we have already discussed
Peace

scalad April 19th, 2007 03:11 AM

Sorry I haven't replied I have been busy with work. I will try this on the weekend. Thanks again. How do I save the downloads that limewire searches for?

mickjapa108 April 19th, 2007 03:30 AM

Hi scalad.
Files Downloaded using LimeWire are auto saved to your download folder
To access them, IN L/W Library, Highlight a file, click on explore,(Bottom Left)
That will take you to your Downloads.
If you mean how do I download a search result, Just Double click on it.

P.S...Dont worry about time, you wont get lost, I get a note when u post,
telling me you have answered, OK
Peace.

bobsidlow May 29th, 2007 06:53 AM

You can check HERE, IN LimeWire Go, Tools/options/advanced/firewall Config

These are all contained within the sticky Connection problems? Check here first!
but possibly some people are getting a bit confused or lost when we direct them to this sticky & ask them to provide their details.

This information can be vital
For instance, some ISPs are known for blocking p2p/throttling bandwidth,
some connection devices are known for being unreliable in certain situations.

So please, help us to help you & provide as much info as you can.
If you're new to LW or new to computers & aren't sure how to answer some questions,
or don't know what an ISP or router is - just say so. Nobody's going to yell at you:wink:
Even if you can't answer all the questions in one go...don't worry. Do the best you can & we'll take it from there.

Try rolling back your java to JRE 1.6.0 there's an issue with 1.6.u1
click on this blue link, OH!! & use the off line installer.
Java SE Previous Releases Downloads
Also make a choice witch Firewall you wish to use, then disable the other,
two running at once conflict with each other,

mickjapa108 May 31st, 2007 07:30 AM

Bob Hi
It could be a firmware thing,
I'm sorry Bob I don't have a clue with vista, try the Vista forum, (forum jump) at
the bottom of this page. Vista users would have come across this,

Or you could try completly uninstalling Norton, Do a computer search for stray
Symantic files & delete, Turn on the vista F/Wall ,Restart Computer, then clean install L/W again.
Limewire should apply to Windows F/Wall, Give full access.
Hope that helps Bob,
Peace.

AviatorDave May 31st, 2007 09:49 PM

You don't happen to have Alcohol 120% installed too, do you? I had Limewire, Azureus, and Alcohol installed, and haven't used Azureus in a long time, but for quite some time, Limewire closes just after it gets to the GUI page. Then I wanted to use the new Azureus, and it did the same thing. Their help wiki suggested removing Alcohol. The instant I uninstalled Alcohol 120%, both Azureus and Limewire started running just fine.

mickjapa108 June 1st, 2007 03:48 AM

Hi Aviator Dave.
Thanks for your input man, Ive been scratching my head for days on this one

Bob!! Do you, or have you used, Alcohol app on your computer
Please say Yes:rofl::laugh_2:
I hope you haven't given up friend.
Peace.

bobsidlow June 1st, 2007 06:16 AM

could it be this

don't really want to uninstall norton as had major problems installing it in the first place

could it be this

the screen resolution for my normal desktop if different to when i play the game so when i exit the game the screen is enlarged and when i click the screen it reverts to what i set it at could this as when i use internet explorer and then exit that the screen resolution doesnt change and i can happily open limewire from the system tray

mickjapa108 June 1st, 2007 07:16 AM

Its your choice Bob,
So you paid for a three legged donkey called Norton,so why stick with a program that costs the earth, misses most of the threats that are found by AVG FREE antivirus, & its known to be problematic with file sharing apps,& there's so many versions it may be Quicker asking Norton how you can configure it to work with Limewire.
But if you don't answer Questions I'm just left in the dark as to how I can help, Look back over this thread & try to give feedback.
Check the vista forum
good luck

P.S...The other point you made sounds more like a Vista bug, a symptom, not a cause.

bobsidlow June 1st, 2007 10:33 AM

alcohol

sorry guys never heard of it or used it

uninstalled the 3 legged donkey (norton) but still no difference

just about to search the vista forums

thanks for your help and patience

if you hear anything that could help give me a holla will keep an eye on this thread

Praise be and keep the faith

mickjapa108 June 1st, 2007 10:57 AM

Bob
Norton has a removal tool to completely remove norton, It wont properly uninstall from add n remove programs, so thats why no difference, Go to their site
& download their brute force uninstaller.

bobsidlow June 1st, 2007 12:13 PM

i feel so hopeless

can't find the brute force thing on their website i so wish this would end

:bangh:

mickjapa108 June 2nd, 2007 12:36 AM

Ive asked Grandpa to take a look, I hope he's not to busy, I am trying Bob.

wondering why June 2nd, 2007 03:55 AM

I actually don't think you will find an answer to this one...

It wouldn't be Norton stopping you from running the two programs together, it's a matter of limewire and the game you are playing being just to much for the computer to cope with...
Do you ever experience any lag in your games when you have to many other windows open ??...
I know when WoW is being run on my computer and I want to check my inbox, it will take ages for my emails to load...
My suggestion would be to run each app at different times...;)

mickjapa108 June 2nd, 2007 08:42 AM

Back in the thread Bob says 2gigRam 64bit so I took it that should more than
Handel things. I'm just trying everything in the dark, I don't have Vista.
Peace.

bobsidlow June 2nd, 2007 08:59 AM

more info that may help

when i had xp and limewire and norton there wasn't a problem the computor i had was slower had less ram etc etc with no lag got a new one with vista same game same norton updated limewire obviously but does this shutting down thing whenever i open the game it isn't one particular game it is all of them this one might go in the record books as one to forget!!!

thanks guys

Praise be

Grandpa June 2nd, 2007 09:05 AM

Try version Java 6.0 you can get it at the link below. Make sure you uninstall all versions of Java through the control panel before you install 6.0 if 6.0 doesn't clear up the problem try 1.5 update 11

Archive: Download Java Platform Standard Edition (Java SE) 6 use jre-6-windows-i586.exe

The above link is 6.0 the link below you can find all versions of Java.

Archive: Java[tm] Technology Products Download

Edit The first link I left earlier was't working I have changed it click on the The (J2SE Runtime Environment (JRE) allows end-users to run Java applications) then choose the (jre-6-windows-i586.exe) for 6.0

bobsidlow June 2nd, 2007 09:06 AM

could this help from tireboy if so can you translate into simple words and stuff

Okay by no means am I a computer guy ,but after reading forums for three days and a sore butt I seemed to have fixed at least it shutting down. I noticed the same solutions coming up all the time switch to windows basic, delete pre. folder re install , roll back java driver .To tell the truth i didn't understand the java reinstall at all . So I came acrossed this one thread that said even if you shut down windows firewall it was still on.
Here's the my setup,
Windows vista that had Mcaffe uninstalled at best buy and trend micro virus and web root spyware put in, but I think they ripped me for the webroot because trend micro does spyware too but let's not talk about that now.
I passed all the test that people have here and all that stuff .
I'm not telling you I did this because I was smart , I just took a little bit of everybodys advice and did it.

1. Put limewire in advanced search deleted every thing because like most my uninstall did not work.

2. Turned off windows firewall wich in fact will stay on behind the scenes as I found out on the forums.

3. Went to limewire site reinstalled normal no offline or anything.

4. Put firewall in search ,went to advanced pref. settings

5. Went to inbound rules on left column ,down to limewire, now I don't know why but there was 4 on the list and noticed that two had UDP settings and two had TCP settings now on the forums I read about setting up UPNP or UNPN whatever settings about using man. port forwading and stuff. So I changed the TCP to UDP allowed limewire through the allowed list and stuff. Now I don't know if did the wrong thing or not but it can't be worse than port forwarding , right ?

6. Changed to windows vista basic, changed all the little stupid things that vista does with graphics but still looks like vista ,shadows ,scrolling and things. I think I found that stuff through visual settings or something.

7. Changed screensaver to something simple my wife put picture slide on I changed it to bubbles.

8. I moved all my music and videos to another folder because I don't know if it would erase that stuff or not because I don't know about those things. So I moved the stuff back to the shared folder and started it up.

So far everything has been okay one time I went down to starting connection but I think that had to do with my LAN I'm on a wireless set up through the eeither net off a tower 4 miles away. I know I didn't spell eeither right , but I don't know about computers ,typing or the english language either.

I hope this helps somebody. I feel bad for people that have mcaffe because some where on the forums somebody found a patch from their website you can download and fix the problem they had but I would get lost on that one too.

If this does help maybe stick it on other post because, I don't know how to do that either.

thanks guys have a well deserved beer, martini or whatever in memory of this moment

woohoo!!!!!

mickjapa108 June 5th, 2007 01:11 AM

Hey Bob, all is not lost, Grandpa's is a Gem aint'ee mate.
It had to be something simple like that, I never even considered 1.5.11 because
I was lead to believe Vista needed at least JRE 6.
So now I know for shore, JRE 1.5.11 dose work with Vista, So I got something
positive out of this thread also.
Have fun Bob, Pranaams
Peace.
