Problem

On my Windows XP computer, I can click on the LimeWire icon and the box comes up where it's loading and then when it disappears, rather than the program opening, it does nothing. Any help greatly appreciated. Thanks.

If it's a new instalation you might want to try these as well...
Try uninstalling your Java from the add/remove programs and then re-install the JRE offline version....(5th one down)
http://java.sun.com/javase/downloads/index_jdk5.jsp

Then uninstall Limewire using the uninstaller which is found in start > all programs > limewire...then re-install it using the offline installer...

It's not a new installation she's had LimeWire for a while. I had her uninstall/reinstall LimeWire and restart her computer. It didn't work. So, what should I do now?

Did you delete the preference folder ???
Also make sure limewire is not still running in processes in the task manager..

That's the thing, Limewire isn't opening. She clicks on the LimeWire icon and the box comes up to load and clicks off real fast it just refuses to open. I had her uninstall LimeWire and install again and her Java is up to date and I don't want to delete ".limewire" it may have something important in it that it needs cus I was going to follow those directions but as I got ot loooking it had program stuff in it so I got confused.

But that's the point when you delete it it get's rid of any corruption in it and starts fresh, she will not loose any of her files, you will just need to re-configure the limewire settings to suit her needs...We wouldn't give that fix if it where going to do damage...

Okay, well I deleted it should I restart because it didn't start?

BrandonL April 14th, 2007 01:42 PM

I did that and it did not work. I removed it completely from My Computer except for the Shared folder and stiill teh problem is yet to be resolved.

Ok we need to back up a minute the .limewire folder is for the older versions of limewire, so you can just toss that out completely it is of no use....
The folder I need you to delete looks like this LimeWire...

Those instructions can be a little confusing, it's the very last post you need to look at..
