Limewire Basic says i'm connected but doesn't return any searches

i've been using limewire basic for over a year and about a month ago it just stopped working properly. i haven't upgraded my computer or anything. I can still open the program and it shows 3 bars of connection strength, i double checked my zonealarm firewall to ensure the program has access. then i uninstalled and reinstalled limewire basic with latest updates twice. it started when i was searching for music and would return lots of hits like usual but then i would start downloading one and it would say "waiting for hosts" or the like, and i would leave it there all day and it would never start downloading. then just recently, it won't even return any hits on searches for files even though the progress bar on the search tab grows and completes. any ideas, other things i can crosscheck. thx for any help.:bangh:

Hi Mat.
It could be the License warning thing.
Just have a look,
Go, Tools/Options/Searching/Basic, it says, "Show License Warning"
Un tick the box if you don't want to filter out Files.

This option is enabled at setup, The choice is your decision.
Do a test to see if search results improve.
You can reverse this change at any time.
Peace.
Peace.

1. Try dowlding a magnet link file from here & tell us what happens: http://www.magnetmix.com/video.shtml

2. Try deleting your LW Preferences folder whilst LW is closed; instructions here: Point #2 & 3 in Fixes for Limewire (sample image included at bottom of page.)

checked the license warning

didn't work. any other ideas. i've gone through the rest of the tools/options to make sure everything is set correctly, seems to be. what else am i not thinking of? firewall, options, setup, isp connection, they're all good, can't figure it out. doesn't make sense because it was working fine up until about a month ago and then out of nowhere stopped downloading one day. does limewire basic have any known conflicts with other programs, peripherals, anti-virus, video cards, etc, something i may have unwittingly installed, or is there a java or windows component that i may have unwittingly unistalled or deleted during a computer cleanout that is required by limewire? thx for the reply.

Hi Mat.
Have you followed & tried the links that Lotr & Birdy gave you. If we are to help We need some info.Please.

System details - help us to help you Please.

Cut n paste these Questions, put your answers in bold text Thank You.

Recently there's been a problem with people not providing enough details about their setup - despite being asked again & again.
So let's make it easy for everyone...the details that we need if we're going to be able to help with complex problems are:

1. what OS version? (eg: Windows 98, XP,OSX, Vista)
2. What firewalls you have ?
3. How much ram ?
4. Hard Disk space available ?
5. Connection type (eg: dialup, broadband, cable, etc.) ?
6. Modem & router brand name & model numbers ?
7. Where are you trying to connect from (house, appartment complex, school, student accomodation, work, etc.) ?
8. What version,LimeWire & Java,Go to L/W's Help/About L/W, THIS show both LW & Java version.?
9. Who is your ISP provider (Internet Service Provider) ?
10. Do this test click here: http://www3.limewire.com:6346/ should say 'Your test worked!. What happens ?
11. Are you sharing the connection with other computers or p2p sharing programs? If yes, please give details of set up.
12. Is this a your 1st try at LW or is this a new problem with an experienced user.?
13. Do you see a brick wall in front of the blue world icon at the bottom of LW's interface ?
14. Have you given full permisions for LimeWire to pass through your Firewall ?
15. XP users, Please state XP firewall on or off.?

These are all contained within the sticky Connection problems? Check here first!
but possibly some people are getting a bit confused or lost when we direct them to this sticky & ask them to provide their details.

This information can be vital
For instance, some ISPs are known for blocking p2p/throttling bandwidth,
some connection devices are known for being unreliable in certain situations.

So please, help us to help you & provide as much info as you can.
If you're new to LW or new to computers & aren't sure how to answer some questions,
or don't know what an ISP or router is - just say so. Nobody's going to yell at you:wink:
Even if you can't answer all the questions in one go...don't worry. Do the best you can & we'll take it from there.
