Baffling-- inconsistent DL speed 0-500+k then to 0 again, mouse placement rejuvenates

well it starts at 0k then it wont show any speed until i simply place the mouse pointer on the limewire taskbar icon then ramps up sometimes to 500k plateaus for a few seconds then declines back to 0k and sometimes starts back up but specifically only when the mouse pointer is in one of few specific places, moving the mouse a few pixels either way on the screen can help ramp it up again or accelerate the decline...im not crazy im maticulous with my observances in a consistent manner.... tell me whats up here

wondering why April 26th, 2007 01:50 AM

I've never heard of that before, but getting 500KB/s is awsome lol...

Try uninstalling your Java from the add/remove programs and then re-install the JRE offline version....(5th one down)
http://java.sun.com/javase/downloads/index_jdk5.jsp

Then uninstall Limewire using the uninstaller which is found in start > all programs > limewire...then re-install it using the offline installer...

If that does not help with your problem try deleting your preference folder...

Odd problem. I can say your ISP is known to shape or block LW, but not in all their regions. They seem to have different attitudes & approaches in different areas. That in itself may result in inconsistent speeds. To start off fine but then drop to zero. But if hovering your cursor over something fixes it then the problem sounds like something else.

To me it sounds like a java issue. So removing all versions of Java & reinstalling using ONLY the 'Offline' installer seems a good idea. Also, make a note of all your options settings & then delete your LW Preferences folder whilst LW is closed; instructions here: Point #2 & 3 in Fixes for Limewire (sample image included at bottom of page.) But be sure to reset everything back to how it was before next time you open LW. When you open LW again, you will need to reset all options. So to reiterate, make a note of all settings under Tools>Options>...

back again

i followed your direction again.... also upgraded to jre6 u1 and i found good speeds coming back again..i capped at 543k...but really floated between 280 and 543 for about a minute then crash to 0 again... the mouse pointer in the hotspots i found still work but not as well as b4 im semi consistent at 80 to 135 as opposed to 130 to 210.... i really wish someone who knows what theyre doing and is reputable could come here and witness first hand what im saying about hotspots is true.. im not even sure im sane anymore cause i know its sounds absurd, i have never witnessed anyhting like this b4 that isnt a 'backdoor' type secret cheat that programmers placed, but it is true...someone has got to be a master at this stuff, where are the masters?, please come out of hiding!
