Explorer keeps crashing I have had this problem quite a few times and I have finally narrowed it down. Here is what happens: I open windows explorer and navigate to the drive on which the Limewire saved folder and Incomplete folder reside. When I click on the drive icon it opens for a brief second then explorer immediately shuts down taking me back to the desktop. In the past I opened a DOS box to access the drive and delete all Limewire data on the drive. When it happened a few days ago I just deleted the Incomplete folder and that solved the problem. This morning explorer crashed again. If I delete the Incomplete folder then obviously I will lose all of my incomplete downloads and I will have to start my searches all over again. Is this a common problem? Is there a way to fix it without deleting the Incomplete folder? Just to be absolutely sure the drive with the Limewire data has no other data on it at all. It is dedicated to Limewire. Oh, one other thing. If it matters it is an external hard drive. Windows XP Pro SP2  |
Limewire works best if incomplete folder is on the same drive as L/W setup folder. Shared folder on external drive can also be problematic. |
Thank you, I will try that. |
Okay, here is what I did. I opened a dos box and moved the limewire save folder and the incomplete folder to my c: drive. Explorer works when I access every folder on the drive except for the limewire folder. When I double click the folder icon it opens for about 2 seconds then explorer shuts down. |
External Drives and Windows Explorer Cosmosis66 & Mickjapa108 I have three external hard drives and an external DVD writer and I do not have, or ever had, windows explorer crashing/closing down when I access them, including accessing the Shared and Incomplete folders. Ever since I started using LW in 2004 I have always used an external drive to store and share my files, so you see I can't agree that a "Shared folder on external drive can also be problematic". At a wild guess, I would say that Cosmosis66 has some sort of incompatibility problem but that would cause random crashes, and not just on one particular folder. And windows explorer's reaction is more like some sort of virus contamination, written to frustrate the use of LW. I believe that Cosmosis66 will have to look further than just the narrow margins of windows explorer and LWs Incomplete folder, e.g. when this problem started had he just finished downloading something from the internet or P2P network, etc. UK Bob |
