4.2.6 is such an old version...Maybe there's a corruption in it, I'm not sure... Go with the one that works at least you can download now...;) |
Good advice. Thanks. Is a corruption possible on a disk version? It has worked perfectly for years. xx |
I'm not real sure, the disk versions are a bit before my time here on the forums... All I could suggest is to install it and try deleting the .limewire folder.. It could of even been the problem you had in the beginning with the Java, maybe the older vesions need the older Java.... I'm a bit confused now...lol... Here are some links to older versions of Java in the 5 series, you could try a few experiments... Scroll down to the JDK/JRE - 5.0 and select the archive you want... ok, here's the thing.... The disk version does not require an install. That's the beauty of it. You pop the disk in, and LW runs. The only thing the computer holds is the .limewire folder and the downloaded files. I think you're right about a certain version match for older LW and java. xx |
Thank you for the help all. I have since acquired the latest version of LW and it works better than ever. We tried everything. The early versions of LW must be matched to compatible versons of java. Somehow, I lost the version of java that kept LW version 4.2.6 running well. I just didn't want to let go.......... |
LimeWire's old versions also are a bit cuddley, they serve us well, it just seems ingratitude to bin them. Isn't there a retirement place for them:D :rip::band::anxious2: Peace. |
Thanks for your interest in helping. I really enjoy LW..... Peace |
