Lime Wire Disapears I have had to re-download Lime Wire about 10 times. If I keep it open for days it will stay on my computer. If I close it and immediately re-open it, it will open fine. If I close and and try to open it after a couple days, it says there was a corruption during installation. Today I tried to re-download Lime Wire from limewire.com and there no longer is a screen that says "already purchased lime wire" so I can't re-download it without paying for it again. Any clues or answers. Andy |
If you have pro then you still have the installer right? Since Pro only comes in the "Offline" installation anyway. I can think of 2 possibilities. 1. You are running a spyware program that is not p2p friendly & thinks all/some p2p programs are spyware when they are not. Answer is to put LW on the exception list or else, get a reliable spyware program that is safe to use with p2p programs. Have a look at WARNING: Viruses on network you should be aware of! (click on link) for our recommended ones. 2. Your Java is causing issues. (a) I would uninstall all versions of Java & reinstall only using the "Offline" installer which is about 13-15 MB in size. (b) Delete your LW Prefs folder. (c) if still problems, try the various compabitibility modes. For b & c see instructions here Fixes for Limewire. As for c, which java to install? Some Pro users have had problems using Java 1.6, but have solved it by going back to Java 1.5. So might I suggest yo utry the same thing: Java 1.5 (take the JRE) which is about 4th on the list. Remember to download the Offline version (2nd) & not the online installer. |
I'm not sure what you mean by "offline installer". I was on the Lime Wire web site and downloaded it directly from their download site. Is there anyway to re-install it now. I can't find anything that says "already bought Lime Wire". There use to be a icon for that and you would enter your e-mail address and it would allow you to re-download it. I no longer can find that. When I Installed the Java it said I already had that version installed and asked me if I wanted to re-intall it. I said yes. |

BTW if you followed my instructions by removing all versions of Java before you attempted to reinstall, then you would not have had that message. ie: Close all internet programs, open up Add/Remove Programs Control Panel & remove all Java/JSE/JRE/JDK versions listed. Then install the Offline Java. |
Ok, I will do that. How about the re-install on Lime Wire. Anyway to do that without re-paying? |
Nevermind Lime Wire sent me a link. Thanks, for your help. Hopefully this will solve the problem. |
