Default Unrequested Uploads

Hi, I'm new to Limewire but slowly figuring it out. Is there any way that someone can upload a file to my PC using Limewire without my requesting it? A friend insists that it is possible especially if I allow freeloaders.

I'm not sure what you mean. Do you mean that someone can send a file to you without you d/loading it?

The answer is no, but(big but) if you d/load a virus, you could find yourself with a whole slew of files that you didn't d/load. Though technically they weren't d/loaded, they were created by the virus. Be careful what you d/load, especially program files(exe, zip, ect).

He insists there is a setting in LW that permits anyone uploading any file to my pc without my knowledge or consent.

How does getting a virus cause me to end up with files I didn't download? Why would they want to upload files to my pc?

But he can't tell you where this setting is?

When you download a virus, you obviously don't know that it is a virus, or you wouldn't have downloaded it. After you download it, it can replicate and create new files (or alter files that are already on your computer).

Spammers would love to be able to upload a virus into your computer. Then they would be able to reduce the number of Limewire users that are downloading. Their ultimate goal is to get more people to BUY music/movies instead of downloading for free.

Hope this helps

Dan

Says it has to do with allowing freeloaders to download, which I currently allow. By permitting this, anyone can send me whatever file(s) they want, that's his story. I've looked but find nothing close to this. I'm beginning to suspect he's full of it but just want to do my due diligence first.

Probably

By the way, the 'allow freeloaders' feature doesn't really work, AFAIK. Besides, that would have to do with others downloading from you.
