help please (can't save to external HDD) ok so I have an external hard drive and I had limewire saving there before but now its saying that I can't do that. What gives? How do I fix this? |
Hi Tiny5638 I'm an external disk user as well, in fact I have three of them on the go. Now, all you have said is that you have a problem, i.e. Limewire says it can't save to your external HD. This seems a strange error, I would like some info before I can offer any real advice, let me know the following: a) How large is your external HD and how much space is left? b) How large is your C: drive and, again, how much space is left? c) How much Ram memory has your PC got? d) Do you have any pre-loaded utilities on your PC (small programs that load when you switch windows on) and, if so, what are they? e) Have you recently added any software to your PC, i.e free, shareware or paid for, and, again, what is it. f) How is your external HD connected to your PC, USB2, USB1 or Firewire? Once you have answered these questions I should be able to get back to you with an answer. UK Bob |
the external drive is an 80 gig, and there is about 50 gig left. the c drive is a 145 gig and there is 119 left not sure about the ram no new software its connected via usb but I don't know what you mean by usb2 or 1 its funny because this just started happining |
Hi Tiny5638 An 80GB external HD seems very small so I am guessing that the drive must be over three or so years old. If I am right then a couple of things spring to mind: 1) It could be that the drive is failing, if you can try and get it checked out. 2) Maybe LW has lost its setting, this has happened to me before and I had to go into LW to reset everything back to the way it was. And one minor thing you might check, in the course of switching the HD off and on it is possible that the USB connector, on the back of the drive, could have become partially diconnected, just try pushing it back in. Hope this helps UK Bob |
thanks for your help but we fixed it. It wanted a new saving folder. |
