Limewire 4.12 doesn't work

I bought a new (and better) computer, and reinstalled every program I have onto it. To my amazement, Limewire didn't work, but left a log message about a wrong Java version or something (I lost the log file). I downloaded the 4.13.8 Beta, and it works, but sometimes it keeps a file in "Connecting…" status forever. So I repaid to Limewire and downloaded the latest 4.12 Version, which doesn't work.
I removed the Java 5.4 and 6.1, and reinstalled the 6.1, still without a success. I installed the 4.13.8 Beta again, but every time it starts, it prompts me for purchasing the pro version.
Did I pay for nothing?

Try rolling back your java version to Java Runtime Environment (JRE) 5.0 Update 12
Now! Go to,
START/Set Program Access/Change or Remove Programs,
now completely remove all versions of java.
Re BOOT Your computer NOW.

Now! Use this Blue Link to get "Java Runtime Environment (JRE) 5.0 Update 12" Use the off line installer, NOT the (recommended) one, 4th one down.
Java SE Downloads - Previous Release - JDK 5
When Download is completed.
Disconnect from internet, close ALL apps n reinstall java.

I cannot set up Limewire because I cannot install Java!

I think my limewire problem is related and hope you can help me. I am trying to install limewire, but it tells me that I have not installed Java. I've tried several times to install Java, but although I had the icon on my desktop, when I double clicked on the icon the message said that to restart the installer I must refresh the web page. (I "refreshed" but it makes not difference) I followed your link to Java, and installed off line, but now, when I double click on the java icon nothing happens at all. I hope you can help me.

I use Windows 98 and my browser is Explorer

I'd appreciate any help you can give me!
Thanks,
Maureen

Hi Maureen.

Sounds like things have become jumbled.

Follow these instructions exactly.
So, you need to Go, Start/All Programs/LimeWire n Uninstall all L/W versions.
Do Not Uninstall From Change or Remove Programs.
Re BOOT Your computer NOW
Now Go to, Start/Search/click on all files n folders/more advanced options/
& make sure, case sensitive, is not ticked. (all other boxes should be ticked)

Now!!, Put limewire in box, (all or part of file name) & click search.
Delete everything found, including Prefetch folder, (I mean everything)
Re BOOT Your computer NOW.
Now! Go to,
START/Set Program Access/Change or Remove Programs,
now completely remove all versions of java.
