Limewire will not start I know there are many threads about this already and thrust me, I just spent an hour going through them and trying to resolve my problem. When I start LimeWire, the loading box appears and then everything just stops at "Loading graphical interface". Everything was working fine and now its crapped. I dont know what happened. What I tried: -Reinstalling (even different version) -Restarting (I did that a lot) -Reinstalling Java -Installing Java JRE Offline thingy -Turning off firewall and antivirus -Installing at different locations -And other little things Ive got Windows XP SP 2, a 2.0Ghz Celeron processor, 512 MB or ram, 4gig of space left on the partition where LimeWire is installed, a fairly good high speed cable connection, the windows firewall. Here is the log that is generated each time I try to launch it: Code: # Thanks, Alex. |
When LW was opening properly, were you using Java 1.6.0_02?? Quite a few people had the same problem with update 1...if you've recently updated your Java, just try this earlier version instead. Use the JRE offline installer & remove your current Java version before you install this one. Archive: Download Java 2 Platform Standard Edition (J2SE) 5.0 Update 11 If that Java version doesn't help, it's easy enough to reinstall Java 6 update 2;) Next thing to try: If that doesn't help, delete LW's preferences folder when LW's properly closed. See point 3 here & also point 2 if you've used older versions of LW in the past (there could be a folder in either location). Fixes for LimeWire This will kill all of your settings within options, you'll have to go back through afterwards & reset things. If you're not sure of your settings, go through LW's tools > options & write them all down, so that you can reset things later. Otherwise, try changing compatibility to Win 2000 or NT (that's point 5 in the 'fixes' thread). |
Limewire will not start I have no idea what is going on with my limewire, I have used limewire for a couple years and I have never really had any problems with it until now, it just started acting up out of no where. Whenever I try to start limewire the limewire load up box comes up but then it disappears at loading library window. Whenever I try to go to my shared music folder and windows box comes up saying that windows has encountered a problem and that it needs to close, and it does this everytime I try to go to that folder. When I go to limewire in my programs folder there is an error message: # An unexpected error has been detected by Java Runtime Environment: # # EXCEPTION_ACCESS_VIOLATION (0xc0000005) at Sneaky Microsoft just updated our Windows XP software to limit ports, according to these forums. See the following, I am not sure quite where the code modification as suggested below goes, unless possibly modifying your Network Card TCP/IP stack or whatever (I am a Newbie and no Techie): ************* This FAQ is not yet complete nor up-to-date. This will be changed sometime ... • What's this EventID 4226? • Which effects does this limit have? • How can I find out, if I'm affected? • I read something, that it's possible to change limit via regsitry. Is that true? • 50 concurrent, half-open connections is to less for me. Is it possible to get more? • Which other parameters does exist? • Which languages are supported? • I have Windows 95/98/ME/2000/XP SP1. Will these get supported soon, too? What's this EventID 4226? The EventID 4226 means, that there are to many concurrent TCP connection attempts. A connection attemp is a query to a computer, if it accept the TCP connection or not. If the computer is for example no more existent, it will be waited for a few seconds, until a timeout occurs and the connection attemp get canceled. Since XP SP2 there are only 10 concurrent TCP connection attempts possible, while in SP1 it has not been limited. Which effects does this limit have? Applications with many connection attemps may work bad or not at all. Even web browsers, eMail clients or antivir programs can be affected and might bring a long time of waiting. Also administrative diagnosticprograms in companies make problem. In short, there seems to be more problems than there is an advantage. How can I find out, if I'm affected? Just have a look at Start/Maintenance/Control Panel/Administration /Management/Eventview/System if there are entries with the event id 4226. If yes, minimum one time the limit has been reached I read something, that it's possible to change limit via registry (TcpNumConnections). Is that true? Unfortunately not. Because the concurrent connection attemp limit has nothing to with concurrent connections, this registry-key is useless. Unfortunately there is no registry-key, which would allow the user to change the concurrent connection attemps. 50 concurrent, half-open connections is to less for me. Is it possible to get more? Yes! Just use as a Parameter /L=limit, where limit describes the new limit. For example a 100 limit can be set with the command: EvID4226Patch /L=100 Which other parameters does exist? Not entered yet ... Which languages are supported? Theoretical every lange is supported. If not, please contact me! I have Windows 95/98/ME/2000/XP SP1. Will these get supported soon, too? Because the limit got introducted in XP SP2, the other operating systems are currently unlimited. Exception: Windows 2003 Server seems to be limited as well since SP1 beta. An update will follow ... ************* My problem is, I am not quite sure where or what to patch. |

1.- Uninstall ALL Java software from your PC. 2.- Download and Install Java 2 Platform Standard Edition (J2SE) 5.0 Update 11 3.- DO NOT update Java software to any other version. 4.- Start using and enjoying Limeware software ... |
And if rolling back your Java doesn't fix things, try these fixes: Delete LW's preferences folder when LW's properly closed. |
I tried all of that and it still isnt working, i think i have downloaded about every java there is, and then i tried to change my compatibility from windows 95 to windows 98, 2000, and NT and still nothing happened |
RD, This fixed my problems. I updated my Java to 1.6.2 from 1.6.1 and noticed 1.6.1 stayed on my computer after the update and a few little funky things started happening. I went to Add/Remove Programs and deleted 1.6.1 and then Defragged and now shes running like a top. So try removing all versions of Java and then dn/ld the version that was suggested above. Hope this helps. Something else you might take a look at to clean your system after deleting programs is CCleaner.com. |
where did you find java 1.6.2 |
