Unable To Delete

I seem to be having the same problem as other users. I get the same message when trying to delete a few songs in particular. It says, "unable to delete", "may be used by another application". I've searched my hard drive and can't find any application that is using the mp3 file. I've tried START, then FIND, and my computer can't find these files. I've tried closing LimeWire, going into my hard drive and deleting it there (as KathW keeps recommending). My computer tells me it's not allowed, that the file is in use. I've tried restarting my computer and doing it all again. Still won't delete. My last ditch attemp to rid my computer of this file is to uninstall LimeWire...which I did. Several weeks later, we install it again, only to find the same song still there!!! What is going on??? and how do I get rid of these songs???!!!! Can someone give me an answer that will work?

I don't understand

Uninstalling LW will not get rid of the file. All the files in your Library are just a reflection of what is in
Program Files>Limewire>Shared.

Have you tried associating your files with a different player to see if that solves the problem.

Other than that - I can't see a solution.

There was someone who actually found something to get rid of these files - I'll have a look if I can find the post but it's a heap of posts to search.

In the meantime - if anyone has a clue about this prob :)

I don't know why this worked but....as I was in the middle of downloading the UnInstaller recommended by Brian, I decided to try one more thing.

I went to explore my C: drive, and went into LimeWire Shared file, where the songs were located. While in there, I was actually able to MOVE the songs to a new folder I made under the Shared folder. Once they were moved, I went into the new folder, and could delete them from there.

I tried moving them before while in LimeWire and couldn't. Like I said, I don't know why this worked, but I'm glad it did. Thanks for the ideas and the quick response! :o)

its easy

If you have any of these undeletable or unrenameable files they are specially encripted files (usally with unsavoury file names) created by wan*ers who think its funny to fill your hard drive with hundreds of undeletable files!
But you can easily beat these suckers.............

If its an mp3 file you need to rerecord a new copy of it.
By using a wave recorder (win has its own).Just play the dodgy mp3 on your normal desktop mp3 player and at the same time record it as a .wav on your recorder. Then rename the '.wav' file and convert to mp3.

Right click and 'Create a new folder' and open your 'shared' folder.Drag the undeletable file into the 'new folder' and right click the 'new folder' and delete the 'new folder'.Empty bin.Done

If its an Mpeg do the same by using a mpeg recorder ,open the file ,play it then 'save as"new name"' and again drag the dodgy mpeg into a new folder and delete that folder.
if you dont have a mpeg recorder most decent art programs have a animation page where you can open a Mpeg and then 'Save as' a large .gif file.

Try it...Any file can be deleted when contained in a folder which is being deleted!
