Limewire will not start

Hi, i'm not sure if this is the right forum but, when i click Limewire to start it the first start up screen comes up, then it closes down. I have Limewire 4.10.0. I really would not like to have to unistall it and lose all the songs but if i have to i guess i will.

Patience

I deleted your 2nd post here as you posted it 5 minutes after the above post...

Be patient... You will probably get assistance very soon and you may even not have to lose any files...
Or, just rush and see what happens, eh ?

cut all your songs that you downloaded and paste them to another folder.

If LW isn't opening

Have you recently updated Java? Some people have had this problem with LW not opening after updating to Java 1.6.0_01 & _02. Try this version of Java instead. Use the JRE offline installer & remove your current Java version(s) before you install this one.
Archive: Download Java 2 Platform Standard Edition (J2SE) 5.0 Update 11

Next, delete LW's preferences folder when LW's properly closed. See point 3 here & also point 2 if you've used older versions of LW in the past (there could be a folder in either location).
Fixes for LimeWire
This will kill all of your settings within options, you'll have to go back through afterwards & reset things. If you're not sure of your settings, go through LW's tools > options & write them all down, so that you can reset things later.

If LW's still not opening, try changing compatibility (point 5 in the 'fixes' thread).

I had the same problem and i followed what you said Birdie, but then I tried starting up Limewire by using the Desktop icon, and it ran me through the steps like normal to start up and i clicked Finish. It didnt start up directly after me clicking Finish, so i double clicked the icon again and it did the same thing as before, which is that it stops at 56% loaded and then dissapears and nothing happens. I tried clicking Run As... and i started it and got this message:

Limewire could not create a temporary preferences directory.

This is generally caused by a lack of permissions. Please make sure that LimeWire (and you) have access to create files/folders on your computer. If the problem persists, please visit Lime Wire » Official Website & Free Download « and click the 'Support' link

Limewire will now exit. Thank You.

I've already been to this post: http://www.gnutellaforums.com/genera...wont-open.html and this one too: http://www.gnutellaforums.com/genera...not-start.html, but nothing worked. I haven't tried what North450 said, should I?

Hi jokeroflife,

Did you remove all other Java versions, so that 1.5.0_11 is the only version on your computer?

Did you look for a preferences folder in both the old (C:\Documents and Settings\your username\.limewire) & new (C:\Documents and Settings\your username\Application Data\LimeWire) locations? Remember that the App Data folder's hidden by default, so you'll have to show hidden files & folders to see it;)

When you change compatibility, try both Win 2000 & NT.

I think north450 might've been replying to Sale88 & their concern about losing their songs if they uninstall LW:)
Just FYI Sale88...if your saved folder is in the default location of C:\Documents and Settings\your username\Shared then your files are safe if you uninstall LW! To check the location of your saved folder, in LW tools > options > saving & you'll see.

If im right i think that everyone is wrong...

when i decided to uninstall lime wire and then install it again it would not work that time either, so i decided to do a ful wipe of it by deleating the folders that were left... there was alot left, for some reason limewire would not uninstall folders like incompleate and the folders around that.

So like i said befor i was doing a compleate wipe, but every time i tried to deleate the "incompleate" folder a box wouldcome up and say that explorer was closing down no matter what i do i cannot get rid of that file. So i think there might be a virus in it...

I have even tryed to go through word and other aplications from there but it will not let me deleat or even move it... i have no idea what to do because for some reason limewire uses this folder whenever i reinstall it

i need some serious help

Thanks Birdie, but i already tried all that stuff except for the switching of the compatability to NT, so ill try that then give a heads up to see if that worked :)
----------------------
yeah just checked it by switching to all of them and none of them worked, does this mean im completely screwed from LW?
