Default Limewire Not Opening

I'm having trouble connecting to LimeWire, which I used to be able to do. I don't remember if I have been able to connect since I recently switched to using Earthlink. I'm answering all the suggested questions below. Thanks in advance for any help you can provide

When I click on the earthlink Icon, it begins to open, then closes. Sometimes I get a standard error messages that suggests it may be a firewall , but I get that message even with no firewall activated.

1. OS version? windows xp professional
2. What firewalls you have? earthlink and windows, but even with both turned off, still can't connect.
3. How much ram? 512 MB
4. Hard Disk space available? enough 20 GB
5. Connection type? cable modem, earthlink using time warner cable
6. Modem & router brand name & model numbers? rca dcm325
7. Where are you trying to connect from house
8. What version of LimeWire (LW) & Java do you have? 4.12.14 java 2 runtime SE v1.4.2_03 or is it java version 6? I'm not sure how to check.
9. Who is your ISP provider (Internet Service Provider)? earthlink via time warner
10. Do this simple test for us. Using your browser go here: http://www3.limewire.com:6346/ The page should say 'Your test worked!'. What happens when you go there? it works as you say
11. Are you sharing the connection with other computers or p2p sharing programs? If yes, please give details of set up. no
12. Is this a your 1st try at LW or is this a new problem with an experienced user. have used LW before.
13. Do you see a brick wall in front of the blue world icon at the bottom of LW's interface? can not get that far to see.
14. For those using a modem/router, how is your modem/router set up...are you port forwarding or is UPnP enabled? not sure, it's however it was set up by the technician.

Try uninstalling your current version of java while LW is completely shut down. Go to the add/remove programs control panel and uninstall your current version of java. Now download and install J2SE Runtime Environment (JRE) 5.0 Update 11(use the offline installer): Archive: Download Java 2 Platform Standard Edition (J2SE) 5.0 Update 11

If that fails try deleting LW's preference folder with LW completely shut down. See points 2 & 3 in this thread: Fixes for Limewire. This will reset all your option settings, so make a note of them first.

that worked...thank you so much. Is it ok to upgrade now to the Java 6? Or should you never upgrade?
