Memory Reference Error It started happening recently, although I don't know why. I had an older version of Limewire at that time (don't remember which), and all of a sudden whenever I tried to start LW I would get an error that said "The instruction at '0x5a002f32' referenced memory at '0x00a566a0'. The memory could not be 'read'", and then when I pressed ok I would get another that said something similar. So I upgraded LW to the newest version, still got the errors, tried out Frostwire, and still got the errors. I tried updating my Java, which I did by uninstalling every Java I could find in Add/Remove Programs, and then going to their website and installing a new one. Still got the errors. I tried everything in the sticky, (deleting folders in application data and all that). I still get the errors. Limewire and Frostwire are the only programs that I get the errors on, and I haven't really done anything dramatic to my computer recently that I think could cause this. Anyone else get this problem? |
Anybody? |
If I were you I would uninstall LW and FW and then restart your computer. Then go to START>Run and type "regedit". There I would search for any left entry of those both programs (i.e. using Limewire (first) and Frostwire (afterwards) as search query). Those entries I would delete. Then I would go back to START>Search for files and folders and search there for any left over folders of those two programs (including in the hidden folders). Those I would also delete. Then I would restart the computer and reinstall LW. Cheers FOTH :Smilywais: |
Nope, still does it :bangh: |
When was the last time you defragmented your HDD... Besides......could you provide some screenshots of the error messages? Cheers FOTH :Smilywais: |
http://i27.photobucket.com/albums/c1...ormessages.jpg Here's the errors. Haven't defrag'd in a while, I'll try it tonight, see how it does in the morning. Thanks! |
Ok,...make your defragmentation.....since that is anyways necessary every so often... But I'm also wondering whether this error message appears when trying to install LW, or after installing it and trying to start it up...? If it is the first, you might want to try the offline installer of LW rather then using the online one... If it is the latter one, I'd try to reinstall LW, but this time running the computer in save mode.... Just a thought though.... Cheers FOTH :Smilywais: |
It's when I'm starting it up. It installs just fine. I'll try doing it in safe mode right before I defrag (since I got so safe mode to defrag anyway, so I might as well as long as I'm there). Thanks. |
Defrag and installation in safe mode didn't work either. Still gives the same error messages. Could it be a problem with one of my memory cards? How would I check? |
Honestly, I don't think that it is a RAM issue. Do you have at any chance some Divx codecs installed on your system? I have seen such an error message in the past and it turned out to be a Divx/WMP interference problem. So, for a starter go to LW>Tools>Options>Player and disable the LW player. Then see if that has any effect. If not go to this site and try to play a game there (if it is indeed a Divx issue, then you should get the same or similar error messages when loading one of their games: Pogo.com: Play free online games!
