lsass.exe On a clean load of the target system, I only installed windows updates, LavaSoft USA's AdAware, and GRI Soft's AVG antivirus software. Then I loaded LimeWire 4.x (latest version presently available). I configured LimeWire as best as I could tell how, NOT TO SHARE ANYTHING. Don't receive, don't send. 24 hours later the OS on boot is telling me LSASS.exe not found. I've repeated this process 3 times with the same computer. and I have received the same error message all three times. Suggestions? |
Well people that don't share on a p2p network, don't get any support on how to fix there p2p app...:D |
the only way you could possibly blame LW for this is if you were downloading materials that somebody felt were 'offensive' (whether that be the MAFIAA or hackerites) and you got hacked....you make no mention of a firewall...are you aware that even with normal online activity a computer lasts less than 15 minutes before it is taken over if one is not using protection?...and here you went on the gnutella network and leeched! |
LSass.exe Concerning the post... the only way you could possibly blame LW for this is if you were downloading materials that somebody felt were 'offensive' (whether that be the MAFIAA or hackerites) and you got hacked.... ..... No, no downloads or uploads had taken place. In fact, I had only loaded Lime Wire, disabled it, and shut it down, but left the laptop running. ... you make no mention of a firewall...are you aware that even with normal online activity a computer lasts less than 15 minutes before it is taken over if one is not using protection?... ... Surprisingly there are 5 other computers all sitting next to this laptop on the same network, that are not exhibiting any symptoms. And it doesn't matter if the laptop is here or else where when I load lime wire. It was at a different location, different network, different network configuration and Lime Wire was loaded, disabled, and the laptop recieved the lsass.exe problem. .... and here you went on the gnutella network and leeched! .... Not knowing what version of leeching you're using, to be honest, I wouldn't mind sharing, if the laptop was able to sustain functionality for more than 24 hours with lime wire loaded. Apparently, though someone does have it's # and is able to send a deliberate payload to it through lime wire, if that is indeed happening. |
again you refust to answer if you have a firewall...I don't give a flip how many computers you have on your network...you started LW once and I'm going to assume you got connected to peers...one of said peers could very well be one of the evil good guys...you know, of the type that has no problems installing rootkits on your machines (Sony), and would have no problem paying a third party to do their best to feck up anybody's computer who is on the gnutella network...please take note that I am not a LW buff or really a supporter (I use BearShare 5.1.0b25)..that being said, I can document many times I have been basically DDOS'd off of the network by said paid third parties (henchmen) and would have no problem believing they are the root of your problems...of course it could just be happenstance that you are having these problems...if you used a dual boot machine like I do you could easily go in and replace lsass.exe remotely using the working OS (dual boot, remember) and looking at the thrashed OS as just a data drive... |
The laptop was using Norton's Internet Firewall the first time. Mcafee's the 2nd time. Successive tests have been run without it. Basically it appeared that the firewall had no effect, since LimeWire statest that it works around firewalls. Therefore the only way to properly protect the OS in my opinion was to make sure that the AntiVirus was up to date. Thanks for reminding of one repair method. In one instance I actually pulled the HD and replaced lsass.exe and repaired the registry through USB. 2 days later lsass.exe was trashed again. |
ALWAYS USE A FIREWALL WHEN CONNECTED TO THE INTERNET, ESPECIALLY WHEN USING A P2P APP!!!!!!!!!! and use PeerGuardian2 when connected to any public filesharing network!!!! If the other cases of missing lsass.exe were before you ever used LW, then it certainly would appear as if you have another issue... it may even be possible that somebody has attempted to replace your lsass with a trojaned version and somehow it was deleted by your AV scanner.... |
thanks for the input. I'm though leary of spending any more time trying to get LW to work. Even though you have recommended a firewall. |
