Exclamation limewire wont even boot up

I tried reading through the last page of threads, and there seems to be no other issues with this and the newer versions...
So, I figured I would start my own.

For the last couple of editions, I can download the program fine, and install it. The icon appears on the desktop, and in my programs folder. No matter which place I try to open it from, (the start menu, the icon on the desktop, or even going into my computer and into the program folder) It doesn't even load up. My computer thinks for about 4 or 5 seconds, then nothing. Its like I didn't even click anything. I dont even get the little status bar that says limewire is booting up. Just nothing at all happens. So, I deleted the last version, installed this new version, and same crap.

So, why wont Limewire boot up on my computer when I double click the icon? It used to work, like 4 or 5 months ago, and now it wont. I have a gateway 2000, and it is plenty new enough to run the program. I used to use Limewire all the time, just haven't had time to download stuff this summer. But now I want to get some songs downloaded, and the program is starting to irritate me.

So, any thoughts? Anything I should try??

Thanks in advance for your help!!

~Cody

Try uninstalling your current version of java while LW is completely shut down. Go to the add/remove programs control panel and uninstall your current version of java. Now download and install J2SE Runtime Environment (JRE) 5.0 Update 11(use the offline installer): Archive: Download Java 2 Platform Standard Edition (J2SE) 5.0 Update 11

If that fails try deleting LW's preference folder with LW completely shut down. See points 2 & 3 in this thread: Fixes for Limewire. This will reset all your option settings, so make a note of them first.

hmm, do we know why this is only affecting some computers, and not all?? This is kind of annoying that I have to deal with this. Just curious as to why not every computer has this problem. And Im wondering why it used to work just fine, and now I have to go through all this trouble to try to figure out why it wont work...

well... 2 of my XP laptops and my XP pc all have an issue right now...

the laptops, the limewire will load but wont connect even though there's an internet connection and no firewalls.

the pc, limewire tries to boot and all i get down in the right corner is a java icon not the limewire icon... then my computer freezes until i Ctrl+Alt+Delete and kill Limewire.exe

boeing747fp,

Have you tried using java 5.0 u11? That sometimes helps xp users. What's the make and model of your router? Most of them contain firewalls that need to be configured.
