Limewire closing.... still no solutions...

I know that there have been a lot of these already but i still never got a solution to the problem. Limewire looks like its gonna start normally, it loads fine, and then the limewire screen opens up. Then its gone, for no reason. I go to the taskbar and its gone. I've re installed Limewire and a lot of Java stuff over and over. I searched the forum for two days, I googled it many times, but still nothing. By the way im using Windows XP, and Limewire worked fine last week. Please help.

Thanks for the help guys, I really appreciate it.

Just make sure Limewire isn't still running in your Task Manager (Ctrl-Alt-Delete)...If it is in your Processes select the end now option...

If that isn't the problem try these fixes...
Try uninstalling all versions of Java from the add/remove programs and then re-install the JRE 5.11 offline version....
Archive: Download Java 2 Platform Standard Edition (J2SE) 5.0 Update 11

Also try deleting your preference folder/s...
Fixes for Limewire when LW isn't operating as it should

dpb1992 August 17th, 2007 06:40 PM

I already did all these before, but just to be safe i did it again with still no luck. I also tried Frostwire and that doesn't work either. So i still need help.

dpb1992 August 17th, 2007 06:47 PM

I found out that if you use a different account that it works, but I would still appreciate it if someone told me how to fix limewire on my account, because it gets kinda annoying switching users just to use limewire.

wondering why August 18th, 2007 01:20 AM

Just check and see if you are an Administrator on your account...

reddiestorm August 18th, 2007 08:22 PM

same problem

I'm having the same problem and I have tried everything.

Deleted both limewire preferences files
Updated Java
I am the administrator
it's not still running in the taskbar
I was able to run it about 3 versions of limewire earlier
I've tried all the other fixes

I am running windows xp on about a T1, I have service pack 2

please fix it! I spent hours trying to get it to work!

reddiestorm

dpb1992 August 18th, 2007 11:28 PM

Yea im an administrator, actually im everything that reddiestorm is (Xp, T1, etc). I tried updating Java, I tried many versions of Java/Limewire, and i figured out that im the only person on my computer that it doesn't work on (It works on 3 others) and me and my dad are both administrators and it works on his but not mine, and I can still get my songs but i made a new account just for Limewire because all other account are password protected. So i need a solution because it's annoying switching back and forth just for limewire (very slow computer) so if anyone can help, please do.

wondering why August 19th, 2007 12:07 AM

Hmmm....This one has me stumped....
Try this...
Right-click the Limewire icon and go to properties and change compatability setting to Windows 2000. (but only if you're using Windows 2000 or later.) Somebody reported changing to Windows NT compatibility fixed their problem despite not using that operating system version.

Right-click on the Limewire icon on the desktop and click on Run as. Then it should come up showing the current user and then switch it over to Administrator. (but 'only' if you're the admin of your comp.!)

reddiestorm August 19th, 2007 10:59 AM

I tried that and it actually stayed open longer and then closed after about 10 to 15 seconds instead of 5.

If it's not java what about that tip of the day that always comes up? Seems like when mine worked I didn't have that coming up.

wondering why August 19th, 2007 12:11 PM

What version of LW are you both using at the moment ??

reddiestorm August 19th, 2007 12:14 PM

Newest

I'm using the newest one upgraded from the version before that which also did the same thing (same problem)

The last time that happened i just updated LW and it worked for awhile

wondering why August 19th, 2007 12:18 PM

When you deleted the preference folders, did you delete both the .limewire and the LimeWire folders ??

reddiestorm August 19th, 2007 12:19 PM

Yes

wondering why August 19th, 2007 12:24 PM

Ok...Could you post your details please, there maybe something there that is causing this to happen...

oh yea, I also use a torrent client, but not at the same time. I just tried uninstalling it and tried Limewire, didnt work still. Its utorrent by the way.

reddiestorm August 21st, 2007 01:37 PM

I just tried java 5.12 with limewire and then I tried Frostwire. No luck on anything, still closed out. And I did delete the preferences folders. So does that rule out java?

dpb1992 August 21st, 2007 04:16 PM

I don't know what to do anymore. I'm just gonna use eMule till someone figures out how to fix it. If I get any luck I'll tell you guys.

reddiestorm August 24th, 2007 12:23 PM

Yeah apparently we have no support anymore

wondering why August 24th, 2007 01:40 PM

Sorry Guys...I had a few days off...

Back to your issues...

dpb1992, that error you get is a Java error...

I think we need to start fresh...

Can you both follow these steps in this order and when you come to the Java install, you need to uninstall all other versions you have in your add/remove programs...

Try uninstalling all versions of Java from the add/remove programs and then re-install the JRE 5.11 offline version....
Archive: Download Java 2 Platform Standard Edition (J2SE) 5.0 Update 11

Then uninstall Limewire using the uninstaller which is found in start > all programs > limewire...then re-install it using the offline installer...To find the offline installer, use the link below > cancel the installer window when it pop's up and then select the offline installer link...
Lime Wire » Download LimeWire

If that does not help with your problem try deleting your preference folder/s...
Fixes for Limewire when LW isn't operating as it should

reddiestorm August 24th, 2007 01:47 PM

I don't mean to be rude but I already tried that:

3 Days Ago 03:37 PM reddiestorm I just tried java 5.12 with limewire and then I tried Frostwire. No luck on anything, still closed out. And I did delete the preferences folders. So does that rule out java?

wondering why August 24th, 2007 01:50 PM

Yeh I know, but that was 5.12 and it was known to be buggy as well...

If these fixes don't work, I'm out of ideas as to why this is happening to you...;)

reddiestorm August 24th, 2007 01:54 PM

Oh my apologies, I missed the 11

reddiestorm August 24th, 2007 02:19 PM

Hey it works! It didn't close! So word of advice: 5, 11 will work, 5, 12 will not.

reddiestorm August 24th, 2007 03:21 PM

well it still works but I had to try it 3 times before it would stay open. I think its when limewire asks if you want pro or not...if you hit the later button at the wrong time it will close...

wondering why August 24th, 2007 03:30 PM

That's strange...Hopefully the next release will have ironed out all of these bugs...;)

dpb1992 August 25th, 2007 05:21 PM

Yea, it works. But. . . . I don't use Limewire anymore anyways. Thanks anyways. I might use Limewire later.

SandokanZ August 27th, 2007 03:28 AM

Hello, I join in, I have the same problem. I did al of the above posibble sollutions but nothing helped. I start a new account and it worked again ( but not on my account).
What can we do futher.

Greet SandokanZ from Holland ( sorry for my bat English)
