Soluation found for some downloading problems

:)
For the past month I have been fighting with my limewire to download anything really.

I checked with my isp (roadrunner) and found out that they don't block ports but do network throtleing (sp?). I've spent the last 24 hours uninstalling and reinstalling various verisons of limewire as far back as 4.8.1 to the curent one thing to get one to work. Even going as far as to rip out the registery keys for limewire and any and all files I could find on my hard drive.

Nothing worked..but still I looked for anything I might have missed. I checked add/remove programs in the control panel for anything that might be the cause of the problem.

I found one thing amiss when I looked closely at the list of programs on my computer, somethings I didn't even know that was installed. (sharring computer with my wife) Somethings my wife I found out had installed (without telling me)"then she complains when I have to fix the system yet agian after her downloading something that messess up the system again. lol

I found what I was looking for.
Java 6 update 2 installed
Java 6 runtime enviroment installed

The java was the only thing I had not reinstalled yet, so what the heck..
I uninstalled both then redownloaded a new copy of Java 6 update 2 and reinstalled it and the latest version of limewire.
Restarted my system and after it finished booting up tried limewire.
Did a search for whatever movie I hadn't seen in awhile and picked one with like 60 sources. waited and watched for the (connecting) to change...
:yahoo: it started downloading after a month of pulling my hair out etc...

So if you have a downloading problem where nothing will download even though it has major sources and your isp is not to blame. Make sure you don't have 2 versions of java installed.

The steps I did in order (windows users)

1) In control panel, add/remove programs. uninstall all programs that use Gnutella network. uninstall Java all verisons of it.
2a) (in windows explorer) deleat all folders for limewire and java. Ussally on the drive in (C:/program files/ etc
2b) In the (Documents and settings/current user/) deleat folder (.limewire) this is where your config files for limewire or kept on the hard drive.
3) restart the system
4) install java 6 update 2 and limewire
5) restart system (yet again)
6) start limewire and enjoy downloading..

later peeps

Hi Wolf, That is Fantastic that you will now be able to retain some of your hair, but it is a very good idea to use Bitzi when looking for video files, just to assure that you get good files. Only a suggestion, Don't want to download a bad file or wait for 2 hours to download and discover there's nothing there.
