limewire slows down my comp!

limewire version 4.13.6
system:
Microsoft Windows XP
Media Center Edition
Version 2002
Service Pack 2
HP pavilion
AMD Athlon(tm)64 Processor
3500+
2.19 Ghz, 1.00 GB of RAM
Recently for some reason, my limewire's been slowing down my WHOLE computer, I'll explain. Before i was using it and it was just fine, then one day it just started making the whole computer slow down, the animation of my mouse cursor glitches, things take long to open, and my music/sound is even slown down and glitching. this seems to happen now whenever i have limewire on, eventually the comp glitches up in a few hours of use. I'm not sure how else to explain it, but I've tried changing to the newer version and deleting all the old version files, but in vain. The problem has persisted, even when I uninstalled and reinstalled it, help would be very much appreciated, thank you.

Run Task Manager and see what's "eating you" !

Hiya...

In XP, please run Task Manager...

Examine the Processes Usage...

What file names represent the high CPU usage ?

This will be a start in trying to help you...

Well, I do see that it takes up about 60 , 000 K - 170,000 K in memory it actually increases alot, and when it runs the cpu usage seems to go to like 70 - 80 % I have like 70 processes running usually. Then when I end the process of limewire, the cpu usage goes down alot. like 10% so what do you suggest?

maybe you have a poor java installation.

I have the same problem with version 4.14.8 and java verified fine on their website with version 6 update 2. Although I am running vista but if he has xp then its the same. Its limewire.exe and uses a cpu of 40-50% but it says 100% cpu usage on the bottom of the task manager with no other processes showing anything more than 5%. It says 77,608K for memory and physical memory is about 46%

Get 5 update 11 most people go fine with that.

I shouldnt have to because the official release of java is version 6 update 2 and it should work fine with Limewire.

Guys

Just a thought but, as LW is a disk intensive program, i.e. it is constantly using your HD, then it stands to reason that your HD will become fragmented and so slow down. Therefore, regular defragging of your HD, say once a month, will keep your programs and applications running as fast as you expect them to.

I see how that may cause it but I got this computer 2 weeks ago. Maybe its a limewire bug or java.

ukbobboy01 September 1st, 2007 08:14 AM

Well D

You could be right but it still would not hurt to do a defrag, you may not realise this but to diagnose any computer problem you have to go through a process of elimination.

So when Z suggested another version Java his point was that some LW users found the latest version of Java to cause problems while Java V1.5.11, which I use, worked as expected.

Also, you said:

I just like to make a point here, when you haved used the number of apps as I have, over the years as I have, there is one thing you learn. The latest release of an app is not necessarily the best or the most stable because companies tend to release apps to a schedule rather than when they are ready.

That is why, you will find, the lastest realease (of any app) to be buggy and unstable. Most professional users tend to wait until two or three updates are realeased before they buy any type of new software.

So, at a guess, it is unlikely that the latest release of Java would have undergone the same number of tests on Vista as it would have on XP.

Just something to think about.

Here is something to consider. Nice little defrag utility.

|MG| Free Download - IObit SmartDefrag Beta 3.1.

Limewire changes my configuration

the problem I am having is that on launching limewire, it goes into like a game mode, screen goes black and then my configuration changes to very large icons. Almost like it is running in safe mode. But when exiting it, everything goes back to normal? running xp and java 6 and latest pro version of limewire...i have the same setup on my laptop but it is running ok...????any help out there for this BTW have tried uninstalling and reinstalling and still the same even did the deleting of preferences folder...i am stumped? Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated...

DontWannaName September 1st, 2007 11:21 AM

Maybe you have it set in compatibility mode with low reolution? Go right click on the limewire shortcut and go to compatibility and see. I will look into the old version of java.

DontWannaName September 1st, 2007 11:34 AM

I found this in Java's forums which relates to this a lot. JRE 1.6 very slow...
