Limewire Is Trying to Send Email???

What the hell?

When I got home today my boyfriend told me that the firewall software popped up a message saying Limewire was trying to send email and gave a destination IP. He blocked permission and wrote down the address (good boy!), and I did a Whois query. I called this ISP and told them what was happening. Dude was useless. First he tried to tell me that this is how Limewire communicates file listings (thru friggin' SMTP??? since when???). Then he told me that they don't support Limewire or any other peer-to-peer. I was like "Yeah, that's all fine and dandy, but it just so happens to be a peer-to-peer that's doing it. That's not the point. NO software program of mine should be asking permission to send email to someone on your network. Don't you care if one of your customers is trying to hack?" He basically said they don't because it's Limewire and Limewire is bad and shame on me, though not in those words.

I did a quick search thru the forum, but I found nothing relating to the topic. IS the jerk right and this is a normal thing that Limewire does?

Thanks tons in advance!

I think this might be what you're talking about. Go to User CP; Top left corner, then to edit options to change. See below

Rogue Emails

Dear Gtwc223

I think I may have an answer to your problem, as you know LW cannot send emails but it does have access to the internet. Therefore, I believe that you probably have some rogue email programs on your HD which are trying to use LW as a carrier.

Now, you may not know this but when you buy a new PC you will find SendMail programs in folders/directories of "so-called" free utilities, and I believe it is one of these SendMail programs that is trying to send something to its home.

To get rid of these "SendMail" pests you will have to find and delete them manually because, in my experience, your anti-spyware and/ or anti-virus software will not see them as a threat but, as you have found out, they are.

Quick story behind my reply above. This chick thought I was sending her an email because I responded to her thread and the forum sent her an email notification "from Remoc" and she was Freakin. :PEACE:

Limewire emails

Hello,
I recently received an email from Limewire and what I have found out is that it is more of a worm or virus....if you are downloading certain things (such as porn) the person who uploaded it, had put a virus or worm in it that allows access to your pc. They access certain data and then email you with a warning.

Bottom line, don't download bad things.
