Limewire converting torrent files

I DL a fair bit of anime by Bit torrent files. I've never had a problem until Limewire was recently updated. Now, every torrent file I go to DL, is converted to use Limewire as the default program to open it. When I choose Bit Comet as the program to use, it STILL doesn't change back to what it's supposed to be. If I try to run the torrent file through bit Comet anyway, the program freezes and I end up uninstalling/reinstalling Bit Comet to get it to work again. The torrent files will also appear as normal if I uninstall/reinstall Limewire and nobody uses it (not much chance of that happening for long).

This is annoying the ever-loving-stuffing out of me not to mention cutting into my anime watching. I need my regular fixes and Limewire is screwing up my schedule.

Suggestions? Recommendations?

I'm currently using Limewire version 4.14.10 on Windows XP Home. As I said, until I upgraded, I didn't have this problem. Is there a setting I'm not clicking on to keep it from doing this? Should I go back to an older version of Limewire to stop this utterly annoying behaviour? Where would I get said older version?

Help is greatly appreciated on this matter.
