LW starts then close, log: resolve_virtual_call; ALCOHOL preventing LW Opening!!!

I am not here to ask for help, I am here to help. This suggestion will help many people, because lot of them have this same problem.
I had this problem with LW: As a moment I start it, it closes down. Log report was like this:
# An unexpected error has been detected by Java Runtime Environment:
#
# EXCEPTION_FLT_STACK_CHECK (0xc0000092) at pc=0x009bd0a9, pid=4032, tid=1100
#
# Java VM: Java HotSpot(TM) Client VM (1.6.0_03-b05 mixed mode, sharing)
# Problematic frame:
# v ~RuntimeStub::resolve_virtual_call

If you have this problem, you, then, have Alcohol software instaled. That thing blocks your LimeWire!!! Solution to this problem is just to change one driver name. That driver is in your Alcohol Soft folder (usually on C:\Program Files\Alcohol Soft). Its name is AXShlEx.ddl. That little thing blocks whole LW. You have to RENAME that driver into AXShlEx.ddl.old.
Thats all. Just start LW and you'll see its working. What you gonna do with Alcohol? I don't care! LW is working :) Try some other Virtual Drive programs. Or patch it.
Thx

Bumped, because I see lot of ppl used this method and it worked.
Thank you.

TheAndresPerson October 18th, 2007 09:57 PM

:aweof::aweof::aweof:OMG thank you so much, i do have alcohol and i posted a thread on forum THANKS SO much i'll try out right away:aweof:. but i have one question, why does that happen?

Xirife October 19th, 2007 01:38 AM

It work thanks. Finaly I will be able to use LW :xeri_ok1ani:.

BaneSerbia October 19th, 2007 05:17 AM

He he... Thx.
Important thing now is to solve why Alcohol blocks LW. But, we will figure it out somehow :) Still, for all those who needs help, read stickys and other ppl posts. Very useful things and suggestions there.
Thx again.

Edit:
As I can see, those programmers from Alcohol Soft call this a "Bug":
Club CD Freaks - Knowledge is Power - View Single Post - Alcohol Not getting properly uninstalled
If you scroll down, you will see this message:
Club CD Freaks - Knowledge is Power - View Single Post - Alcohol Not getting properly uninstalled
Now, still, have no explanation why Alcohol blocks LW. When I patched Alcohol with some new update patch, both LW and Alcohol works. So it must be because of that file and that version of patch. But what happened - I will continue to search for answer.

Uninstall all versions of Java from the add/remove programs and then re-install the JRE 5.11 offline version....

I have told you all, in previous posts, that I will take a look why this file blocks whole LW. I have found answers, or not, on Alcohol Forums.
Here is the link to Official Alcohol Support Forum and part of it where you can read all about this issue and problem we are having here:
Same problem as in the thread thats closed.... - Alcohol Support Forum
Now, as I can see, those guys from Alcohol don't like LW so much. But onto the subject. The answer on why AXShlEx.dll blocks LW is - the last post on this thread mention above and thats:
Quote:

...i will close this topic while further investigation of the problem goes on.
You will see that for yourself, on page 2. Its something about Borland compilers. So... All we have to do is to wait and see if those programmers can make something out of this.
One suggestion to LW customer support: As those guys from Azureus development (you can see their post in the link above), please contact Alcohol Software about this issue. It can't hurt :)
Thank you

Edit:
I saw this forum thread, that I have posted in the link above, was closed in June. I guess there have to be an answer somewhere :P So, I am onto searching again.

Np Wolfman :)

Hey Johnpapas, you need to post that problem of yours in subforum. That way lot of people will see your problem and they will try to help you. This is a sticky about just one problem that can be solved and we can exchange opinions and argue only about it.
About your problem, in LW folder (usually on C://Program Files/Limewire) there is an error log. Try, in your future posts, to post, beside the main problem, that error log.
Thank you.

Uninstall all Java versions (from Control Panel uninstall everything that begins with "Java"). After that install newest Java version (I suggest you download Offline version). That should work.

traveler December 28th, 2007 07:49 AM

i already unistalled all of java and install the newest version of it, it still crashes

My brother had this problem, (LW opening and closing immediately) and your help fixed it BaneSerbia. I told him to uninstall Alcohol and Boom LW starts right up and stays up. Thanks BaneSerbia again.

BaneSerbia January 22nd, 2008 04:39 AM

NP! I hope they will change something in future versions so we can use both programs.

I had this problem with LW: As a moment I start it, it closes down. Log report was like this:
# An unexpected error has been detected by Java Runtime Environment:
#
# EXCEPTION_FLT_STACK_CHECK (0xc0000092) at pc=0x009bd0a9, pid=4032, tid=1100
#
# Java VM: Java HotSpot(TM) Client VM (1.6.0_03-b05 mixed mode, sharing)
# Problematic frame:
# v ~RuntimeStub::resolve_virtual_call

Thx

uhm. i kind of have this weirder problem where like it starts up, then closes, but then there never is some kind of pop up. it's a problem and i'm pissed.

Hi, I've been having trouble with Limewire for over a week now. It starts up and shuts down sometimes within a few minutes and sometimes it stays on for a while and then crashes. I noticed when I run a file search, it crashes. I just updated my java to the newest update. My error report shows:

anyone have an idea why it crashes?

Lord of the Rings November 19th, 2008 11:34 PM

Unless you have picked up a virus which has corrupted operations, I'd suggest removing your Java versions & replacing with the most recent one. Use the OFFLINE installer which is about a 15 MB download; Download Java software from Sun Microsystems

http://www.gnutellaforums.com/attach...stallation.gif

BTW before re-installing Java, a good idea to run this utility to clean up the registry: Microsoft Windows Install Clean Up. An alternative is Crap Cleaner

chessybreadrules November 20th, 2008 05:39 PM

does this include removing Java Runtime Environment or just the java updates?

Lord of the Rings November 20th, 2008 09:08 PM

Removing all versions via the add/remove programs control panel. You will need to have downloaded the suggested files before you do this, then remove Java & then re-install. :)

chessybreadrules November 21st, 2008 12:03 AM

I just tried everything you said and still no luck, should I uninstall and reinstall limewire?

Lord of the Rings November 21st, 2008 02:13 AM

That's an idea yes. I have heard LW tech sometimes suggest using add/remove control panel to remove LW which is odd because it doesn't use that type of installer. (Usually use the Start menu -> All Programs -> LW -> Uninstall option.) But I would clean registry after uninstalling. Both the above registry cleaners are good.

I did get the impression looking at the above bug report the error was in Java, something not correct about its installation, but if you have reinstalled it & did a registry clean in between then perhaps the problem was the LW installation. Make sure you delete all files related to LW on the computer (except for offline installer.) Get offline LW installer here http://www9.limewire.com/download/LimeWireWin-full.exe which is safer than the normal installer. :)

can I keep incomplete music/video files before I uninstall, like save them to my desktop and then uninstall the rest

Lord of the Rings November 21st, 2008 09:16 AM

Yes ... move the entire folder .. important to keep the download.dat & download.bak files within that folder, else the incomplete files will not mean anything to the new limewire. Those are the download history files. :)

However, and this is VERY IMPORTANT, install the new LW, then if it opens ok, close it. Then replace the new incomplete folder with the old one. This MUST be done whilst LW is closed, else the download history files will be zeroed. Make a back up of those download.dat & .bak files just in case. ;)

limewire starting then shuting down

I am having the same problem. LW begins to start up whith the black banner that says Limewire5, but then suddenly dissapears. I don't have alcohol on my system. Im using windows xp. I have uninstalled and re-installed both LW and Java, and still no luck. The only thing i can think of is I installed a registry cleaner last week and i havnt run limewire since then and have been cleaning my registry regularly. It's call ErroFix. Could this program be causing my problem with limewire starting and then shutting down a few seconds later? Also, i never get an error message when it shuts down either, it just goes to my desktop as if nothing ever happened.

Bryan
