Limewire will not start

Limewire will not start. It is not a matter of connection, it is actually activating the program and getting it to run, just to clear that up.

My first version of limewire would not start, so I thought maybe my system was out of date. Well, I do not know how to update my limewire version without being connected to it, so I uninstalled limewire then reinstalled the new version. Now I'm trying to run limewire 4.14.10 on a windows XP OS. It still refuses to come up. I have tried pulling limewire up from every source that I know. The icon, wouldn't work, and neither will the file, even if I right click and then open it. My interenet connection is working well, so I'm not really sure what the problem is. If anyone has any trouble shooting suggestions, please let me know.

Try uninstalling all versions of Java from the add/remove programs and then re-install the JRE 5.11 offline version....

Corrupt installation

When i downloaded limwire i was told that one of the files had been corrupted. Now in order to exit limewire i need to righ-click and exit limewire from my task bar. However when i right-click no pop up menu appears for me to click exit. Anyone know how i can get around this problem??
Thanks

Uninstall Limewire using the uninstaller which is found in start > all programs > limewire...

Then re-install it using the offline installer...

To find the offline installer, use the link below > cancel the installer window when it pop's up and then select the offline installer link...
Lime Wire » Download LimeWire

the weird thing is, is that i've already uninstalled it, but the limewire icon is still in my taskbar and won't let me exit it. Because of that i can't re-install limewire.

Go to your Task Manager (Ctrl - Alt - Delete), select processes, find limewire and select the End Process tab...;)

could this have something to do with port forwarding? ive uninstalled then reinstalled limewire and frostwire countless times and the same with the different versions of java - i still get the same results - limewire starts; it says 'starting connection' ...and that's as far as it goes! im fed up of reading millions of forums on this cos nothing works! as azureus and bit torrent dont work either im guessing its a port fault but i dont know how to rectify that either!...anybody else suffering like me??

If I may suggest... try changing the installation folder

no it can't be the router or its firewall...my main pc allows limewire and my son's pc which has a wireless connection like my laptop also allows limewire to work fine....it's just this darn laptop...i even took off the firewall and any anti-virus/spyware ...still doesnt work..it's gotta be something else cos my other pcs allow torrents etc...if it was the router surely the other pcs wouldnt be able to access these apps either?

'Maybe' your LW is set to using the same port as another pc on same network. Changing the port LW uses may fix the issue. A router will 'reserve' a port per computer & per program. So each program & each computer needs a separate port. Else, replace the gnutella.net file from the LW preferences folder. woot .. this is an old thread. lol :D :p
