Shared Folder

:confused:This is me after a Limewire mishap. I was cleaning out my library tonight of songs that I don't want. A bunch of them were from my sister. Anyways, I wanted to see if the amount of songs were the same in my Limewire library and my iTunes library. I knew that if I created a folder on the desktop that it would tell me the number of files in the folder, thus telling me how many songs I have. So I did find out that they were the same. But when I dragged the songs back from the folder that I created on my desktop to back to my shared folder in Limewire, they wouldn't go back. So now I have the songs working in iTunes but heres the thing, they only work if the folder that I made stays on my desktop. So here is what I want to do. I want to be able to put my songs back in Limewire without having to keep the folder on the desktop. If I delete the folder and go to click on a song in iTunes it says "the original file could not be located. Would you like to locate it now?" Does that mean that I have to individually find them? Basically I want the songs back in Limewire in my shared folder (as if I never moved them) so I can delete the folder I made on my desktop. Please help is needed!

Shut LW down and open both folders in windows(your "Shared" folder and your desktop folder). Then drag your files from the desktop folder and drop them into your "Shared" folder. If it doesn't work, what happens when you try it?

Also not a good idea to save files directly to your desktop. It's better to create a shortcut on your desktop to the folder their in.

I tried dragging and dropping them back in the folder. They refuse to copy over.

If you did not take the songs out of iTunes library folder, & you received that message, it means those particular songs were not added properly to iTunes. It was referencing them from the LW shared folder.
Answer is to open iTunes, drag & drop the songs or folder onto the Library icon at the top left of iTunes. It will copy those songs that were not there before. It will not copy songs that are already in the iTunes library.

The other files, if you wish them to remain in the shared folder, the as 6_pac suggested, you close LW & copy them back. Sounds like a permissions error.

If you wish them to remain in LW's shared folder for sharing purposes with other gnutella users, there's another option. Add some or all of the folders within iTunes Music Library folder to share. ie: Go to LW's menu bar, Tools > Options > Sharing & click the Add/browse button & direct it to the iTunes music library folder.

If your purpose of keeping the files in shared was for sharing playlists with family members, you can create your own playlists within iTunes. And enable network sharing in iTunes settings. Those playlists will be available to those on the same lan network when both iTunes are open at the same time.
Or if on same computer you can create playlists within iTunes & save them to a common area & allow your family members to import those playlists.

You need to keep in mind those songs that appear in the LW playlist in iTunes are not actually in the iTunes music library until you actually add them in the fashion suggested. Playlists are simply documents that point the player to where the song files are ... for the LW playlist, it means the songs are in the shared folder. You would want them all to eventually be added to iTunes music library.

Lord of the Rings, I understand what you are saying but what I am trying to do is to remove the folder actually delete it from the desktop and when i do that, iTunes does not recognize the songs it says "the original file could not be located. would you like to locate it now?" I am trying to take the folder that I made that now contains all of my music and move it back to limewire's shared folder as if I never created a folder on the desktop.
