***Double click icon and nothing happens***

I double click the LW icon and nothing happens. I get an hourglass for about half a second, then it goes away, and no LW processes appear in the task manager. I have tried uninstalling and re-installing both LW and the java. i currently have java 1.5 release 11 installed.

I am running the following on my system.

Windows XP Pro 64 bit
Windows firewall
4GB ram
several hundred GB of disk space
cable connection
LW version 4.14.10

LW was working before and have not made any modifications to the network aspect of my setup.

Please let me know if more info is needed.

Thanks!

this MAY work (it should)
My computer > C Drive > Program Files > Limewire > RIGHT Click the file "LimeWire.exe" > (a list should drop) click open
if this does work then that just mean something is wrong with the shortcut youve got
if u dont want to go through with that process everytime, copy and paste the "LimeWire.exe" file in your desktop!

lemme know if it works!

aaron_03 November 26th, 2007 01:30 PM

Nope, I have tried that too. I have tried every common thing, and a lot of things listed in this forum.

Thanks for the reply though...

.....nah sorry all i could say is to switch to FrostWire for a bit until LW works again.

its EXACTLY the same as LW...same speed....same appearance....etc.
also dont worry coz u wont lose ANY of ur files + they'll be in the FrostWire library tab

My problem is not that LW will not connect. It won't even open. I click the icon and nothing happens...

The info in the thread on Java and the preference folder should do the trick...

aaron_03 November 28th, 2007 06:40 AM

I have tried those tips in those threads. I have uninstalled java and reinstalled it on many occasions. Right now have have java 5 update 11 installed as it was recommended as the most compatible with LW. I have looked for the preference folder extensively. But i believe that since i have never successfully started LW since i have installed it, that it doesn't exist. Correct me if i am wrong about that... Thanks for the idea, but i have already tried that too!

Someone please help me!!! I need to download!!!

aaron_03 November 28th, 2007 10:18 AM

I also tried installing frostwire to use, and it does the same thing. I have installed the new version of java, and tried to download and use the "other" version of LW as suggested in another thread, and that doesn't work. Is there some windows update that is causing these programs not to work?

Aaron_03

Are you using Pest Patrol or one of its clones as your PCs anti-spyware app?

I ask this because it is well known that Pest Patrol deletes Limewire's exe file, and I suspect will delete Frostwire's exe file as well.

You see, Pest Patrol always starts up when you restart windows and that is when it does its damage.

I am not running any of those anti-spyware programs. I don't have anything running at startup that would cause that to happen. THe exe's are still there, just won't load.

Still looking for more suggestions!!

I think you should start all over again...

Uninstall Limewire using the uninstaller which is found in start > all programs > limewire...

Use your computer's search to look for all files & folders with limewire in the name. If you can't delete them, reboot into safe mode & then try. If they still won't delete, try one of the tools here...
Incomplete Download File won't delete at all.

Then re-install it using the offline installer...To find the offline installer, use the link below > cancel the installer window when it pop's up and then select the offline installer link...
Lime Wire » Download LimeWire

Just in case either of you have Alcohol software installed...check the thread below.
LW starts then close, log: resolve_virtual_call

Depending what OS you have, right click on the LW icon on your desktop > properties > compatibility > run in compatibility mode for Win 2000 or NT if you're using XP or if you're using Vista, run in compatibility mode for XP.
