Can't uninstall limewire... I wanted to get rid of it because it had a problem, figured if I deleted it, and reinstalled it, the problem would be gone with the limewire...but it didn't...Now I used to control panel, and removed it...but the limewire icon is still on my start menu, and I cant delete a file called "limewire" because it is in use with another application....meaning limewires not gone.... Restarting didnt work, made it a lil worse because a pop up comes up saying that theres a problem with the limewire that can be caused by a failed installation....I want it, and ANYTHING that has traces of limewire "memory" gone, but not necessarily the files i got... Any one can help me? |
Uninstalling LW via Control Panel is the wrong way to do it & can cause problems. The right way to uninstall LW is via start > all programs > LW > use the uninstall option there. Open Task Manager & check whether there's a LW process running. If there is, end the process. Then use your computer's search to look for all files & folders with limewire in the name & delete what you find. The problem that you had with LW that made you want to uninstall it...was LW restarting all the time & refusing to stay closed? If that's the case, your computer's probably infected (uninstalling LW won't help...you need to get rid of the malware). There are a few different fixes to try in the thread below. http://www.gnutellaforums.com/genera...s-options.html If you're still stuck, try going to one of the help sites listed in that thread. Always make sure that you're using a good AV program. Keep it updated & use it to scan all files that you've downloaded, before you open them. |
actually, i think i deleted something i shouldnt have, the problem was when it was attempting to open, it had a load bar and the limewire logo, it stopped at 19 percent and i had to choose a file to redirect all the downloaded files to...that got really annoying every time i turned on my pc...thanks for the help though, so that means that i have to redownload LW and then uninstall it?...huh... |
You can reinstall LW & then uninstall it, but if you do that you need to make sure that you don't have a version already running in task manager (or you won't be able to install a new version). Or you could do a search like I said before & delete what you find, that should get rid of LW. Just make sure that you hadn't changed the location for saving from the default...if you did change your saved location to a folder with limewire in the name, you could end up deleting your downloads;) |
thx, it appears its gone now... |
