Default LW basic vs Pro

I have been using LW basic for quite some time. From time to time I have trouble downloading music but not a lot. I have never been able to download movies etc. The ad for Pro says "Turbocharged download speeds" with Pro. Question is, is there a big difference in Pro. My download speed on movies is usually less than 40kb an as slow as 1kb an sometimes 0
any help would be appreciated!

Default Is LW Pro really faster than Basic Please Help!!!!

Is Pro really faster than basic, basic seems so slow, especially on any type of video? I am considering upgrading to Pro but I am leary, I have been ripped off on the internet before. At best my download speed is about 50kb and was just wandering how much faster Pro would be if any.
Any comments and help would be much appreciated. Thanks to all!!

Pro connects to 2 extra ultrapeers (people with fast connections to help you search) & also connects to a couple of extra hosts for download (max is 14 for a T3 connection).

Well I'm confused...you said you'd never been able to download movies but you're getting between 1 KB/s & less than 40 KB/s for movie downloads???

What's your connection speed? Do a speed test.
Speedtest.net - The Global Broadband Speed Test

Try downloading a movie from here & see what speeds you get.

Have a look at the first few posts below for tips about optimising LW's performance.

Pro isn't going to make any magical difference to downloads if you're already having trouble with basic. Pro might help with more search results & those extra hosts to download from can boost speed a little bit. But in your case I'd say wait until we see if we can help you with basic first

Default LW Basic vs Pro Speed problems

First off, thanks for your reply. I went to the site you suggested to test my speed and it is as follows: download 2811 kbps upload 282 kbps. I ran the test 6 times and took an average. Next I downloaded a video from the site you sent me to and the speed was better, it bounces around a bit but its pretty muc about 150 -155, lots faster. I went and did the tweaks as you said played with upload slots for a while and my speed is now around 50 - 65 KB/s, I am downloading another from the other site you sent me to and its now at 152 KB/s. Since I first posted my question 3 movies have finally finished downloading from Limewire; about 7 hours later; and I tried to play them but all I have is the audio, no video at all. I seem to have the entire audio from the movies ( start to finish ) but no video at all. Any ideas?

Again thanks for your help, MUCH appreciated

Who is your ISP? Have you tried downloading outside of your ISP's peak hours, to see whether your download speed increases then?
Do you see the firewall icon (brick wall in front of the blue globe)?
If you see the firewall icon, what's the brand & model of your modem/router?
What software firewalls do you have installed?

You probably need codecs for your player, if you're getting audio but no picture.

Have a look through the thread below, there are links to codec packs. The XP & K-Lite packs are popular.

Or you could try VLC player...it's free & has codecs installed to play most file types. It's a good player. That thread has a link for downloading VLC if you want to
