Need help with LW! Everytime I shut LW down, after a few seconds, it pops back up ???
 

I need help!!! Whenever I open my computer, my LW opens up by itself. I checked the options and LW was not to start whenever I start my computer. Everytime I shut LW down, after a few seconds, it pops back again. It's like that it automatically opens by itself without me clicking to open it. Need help!!!

Sounds like you're infected.Check out the thread below for a couple of different fixes.

If nothing helps, go to one of the malware removal sites listed in the first thread:)

There are heaps of infected files on the network. Always make sure that you're using a good antivirus program. Keep it updated & use it to scan every file that you download, before opening the file.
WARNING: Viruses on network you should be aware of!

Ive read the other users who have the same problem as mine. I read everything that proves if i am really infected. When I press CTRL+ALT+DELETE nothing would happen! I really don't know what to do by now!!! I really need help!!! I want this problem to be fixed as soon as possible!!! LW popping up everytime I close it annoys me alot!!!

I am also having the same problem as you. I have a hidden folder called ' (apostrophe) Located in c:\windows\fonts\' and it fills up with .zip files, about 750 of them that only totals 3MB. I have deleted the items in the folder and the folder itself and it keeps coming back and filling up.

My LimeWire also re-loads itself within 30 or so seconds of closing it. Also I can not access the options in LimeWire, it only flashes on the screen and goes away.

I can access my task manager just fine.

I have tried uninstalling Limewire with the brute uninstaller and re-installing... no change.

I'm still trying to figure out how to fix this problem. If I figure it out I will post my results. :mad::mad::mad::mad::mad::mad::mad:

I can access the options in Limewire, I cannot open the task manager. This may sound weird but, can you tell me how to open c:\windows\fonts\'? What application shall I use??

Did you try the fixes in the threads I linked to in post #2 (BFU, system restore, scan with AVG, vundofix)? Even if you can access options, those fixes might still help with LW popping up. There's another fix in the 'viruses you should be aware of' thread.

If nothing's helping then you should go to one of the help sites, which are listed in the first link in post #2. Those places deal with malware issues every day...they're specialists.

If you can't open C:\Windows\fonts, I've got no idea which app to use...it opens for me when I double click on it:confused:

I fixed my computer!! :PEACE:

Solution:

I went to AVG Free Advisor - AVG Anti-Virus Free Edition and downloaded their free trial software, ran it about 4 times on the full scan and had it delete every problem it found. Then I re-installed LimeWire and everything is working like a champ now.

No more secret c:\windows\fonts\' folder. LimeWire stays closed when I close it. I can access the options window now.

Lesson learned... antivirus software alone is not enough. I thought I was covered. I guess not!
