Limit the amount of allowed connections

I've been going through all the preferences but I can't find a setting to limit the amount of allowed connections.
The problem is that my router chokes on too many connections and there's nothing I can do about that. Many p2p applications (eMule, uTorrent, etc.) provide the option to specify the amount of allowed connections. Is it possible to do so in LimeWire as well?

In the options you can select how much of your bandwidth is devoted to letting other people have access to your computer. In the same section you can limit the number of people downloading from you. Go to Tools/Options/upload bandwidth.

Thank you for your reply.

The settings you are referring to does not have any effect on the actual number of actual (half open) connections being used. This is at least the case for the bittorrent support.

Limewire doesn't have that feature. Their BitTorrent support lacks a lot of things, so I would recommend just using uTorrent for torrents.

What about the Gnutella support? Is there a client that does allow me to limit the connections? Is LimeWire planning on adding an option for this?

I'm pretty sure that your router can handle the connections for Gnutella. If not then go back to an earlier (pre Torrent support i.e. <4.13) version.

another thing is just limit the amount of simultaneous downloads/uploads, so your router can handle it. Make sure you disabled UltraPeer capabilities as well.

I used to have a crappy router myself, but got fed up with it and switched to a newer better one.
