Make ITunes go away ;) Some reason --somehow LimeWire has attached itself to my Itunes ---I don't want it that way--I want it to go back to Windows Media Player like it was---I could download songs--I would push --Launch it would play in Media player --and I could build my lists from there---now Itunes gets in the way for everything---Anyone have a solution here thank you ;) |
Open the program menu in the bottom left hand corner and click on "Default Programs" When that window opens click on the link that says: "Associate a file type or protocol with a program" When the next window opens go down the list till you find the file type .mp3 Click on that file type and then click on the button that says "Change Program" When the next window opens look for Windows Media player and click on that icon. And then click OK. From then on all mp3 files should open in Windows media player like you want. |
WMP versus iTunes. What I like about iTunes is it has its own Music Library where it stores its files, "if" the music has been added correctly (ignoring the LW playlist that shows up in the program.) Whereas WMP is a playlist player. It plays the files from wherever the file was added from. So should you move the file, WMP won't be able to find it. Ideally music should be moved to My Music folder before addiing to WMP player's playlist. But obviously everyone has their own preferred approach. :) Disadvantage of iTunes is the basic program does not have ability to play mp3Pro format (patent format for smaller bit-rate type mp3 files), Ogg Vorbis, or a few of the other patent formats such as Real files. There are 3rd party plug-ins available that can help there though. ;) And for viewing video, it only imports mpeg 4 and H.264 format (an advanced mpeg 4 format.) Whereas with WMP, you can get 3rd party plug-ins/codecs to help play various video file formats. |

I would use the VLC player for playing basic music files. It plays a lot of formats. I don't use WMP. I use iTunes because I think it would take care of my iPod better, lol. |
Dear Robert R I appreciate that you had let me know about how to get the I tunes from the Lime Wire ---but I have removed the I-tunes and Rhapsody and Zune--hoping that limewire that would go automatically into the Windows Media player--just like everybody elses does --I must be doing something wrong---that when I opened the limewire --I don't see a menu on the bottom left --so I don't know how to switch it--I know that when I download music I have to play it thru the limewire player ---;) thanks for the help on this if you know how to change it ;) |
Menu bar, Tools > Options > Player, if you disable it, then it will play thru your default audio player, whichever one that is. :) Setting default audio program |
When I said bottom left I meant the bottom left of your Windows Desktop where the Microsoft icon is. not the bottom left of the Limewire application window. To change the application that plays your audio files you must follow the direction offered either by me (if no programs are open) or Lord of the Rings if you have Limewire open. |
A shortcut would be right-clicking on an audiofile and choosing open with.. -> Choose Program. Then highlight the application you want to play these kinds of files with and check the box that says "always open..." before clicking ok button. bTW this goes for any type of file, not only audio. |
